re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

I thought I would try and see if I could replicate your success. NO luck though, it just says:

Not that it would do much, but just wanted to see if it would work!

+1 here. :(:(:(

munitalP, slight chance that the invitation email might be in your spam folder / was removed by spam? (Unlikely, but it could happen)

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

Just flown my first leg after signing up and have recieved a nice bonus.

Code:
16 APR 09 QF 391 ECONOMY 14APR09 SYDNEY/NADI 1,969 - 1,969 3,938 20
15 APR 09 STATUS CREDITS BONUS 15APR09 - - - 0 30
15 APR 09 STATUS CREDITS BONUS 15APR09 - - - 0 40
10 APR 09 ANZ FF VISA CARD 09APR09 - - - 1,126 -
08 APR 09 JQ 073 JETFLEX 29MAR09 SYDNEY/DARWIN 1,960 - 1,960 3,920 40

So after flying my SYD - NAN I was credited a bonus of 30 and 40 SC's seperately.

Not sure exactly how that was calculated?

Are they possibly for your flights on 2 Apr and 4 Apr?

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

Probably.

Would have thought the bonus from the SYD - NAN would be credited also, even though the regular 20 already has.

Actually suprised that they credited bonus points for flights taken before signing up.

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

My reading of post #1 is that it includes all travel from April 1. I didn't get the offer, so that was what I was going on, and not sure if there was anything else that restricted it to when you signed up.

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

Yeah, no double points here :(

I'd love to know what the criteria for the promotion was, or if it was simply a case of luck in the lottery.

Apologies for quoting from another thread but as that thread is closed I could not comment.

See this thread for lots of comments on this Qantas double SC promo, as well as the nature of the targeting.

It seems Qantas does not believe they need to do any special for people who are already showing their loyalty, beyond the normal issue to FF benefits.
It would appear that there is no logic, again, in this promotion as the person who created that thread, serfty, was targetted and has been partner Gold for a number of years and is already ~2/3 of the partner Gold this year with at least 6 months to go before reassessment. Another high profile QFFer munitalp was also targetted so to me it makes no sense.

Personally I think any promotion, like promotional balance transfers from credit cards, should be open to all customers including existing customers, high value customers not just new customers or customers who have appeared to stray or spend less. Remember that in most businesses it costs more to generate an new customer than to keep an existing customer....

Actually it's the other way around, it costs roughly 5 times more to win a new customer than it costs to keep an existing customer.

Also brand loyalty will only go so far, once you've won a customer you need to keep the incentive up for the customer to continue using your products. Whilst QF thought that they are doing a good thing by trying to win back some now lost customers (or customers they felt they could lose) it's obviously creating a stir amongst the customers who don't feel valued anymore. It's almost as if they thought that customers never talk to each other.

Yes. I knew what I meant to say but typed the exact opposite.

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

Considering my late start in this promotion, I have earned 205 additional SC's so far this month

Mrs! is well on her way to PG again this year :D

Better than Asprin!

Mr!

I think Qantas have done a fairly good job of using the FF program to lock you into flying with them. You've got the lounge access etc, you are still flying so I am not sure why they would need to throw points and SC's at you.

What risk is there that you will start your weekly commute on DJ?

Yes, but those same customers seem to be highly resistant to trying out the competitors. How many of these Qantas flyers would really defect and start flying Virgin Blue? How many of these people do you think are really at risk of stopping to fly Qantas and move to a competitor. I suspect very few will do it because they were not targetted for this promotion

It might make more sense than you'd think.

By mid march last year, I had already re qualified PG, to the same time this year I had not; being down ~40% of the SC's I had at the same time last year. So on a SC basis my travel was well down.

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

My travel is also way down on the same time last year and I was targetted by QF for the promotion.

Every employee in our company that travels have all recieved the promotion, and we are all down on travel compared to last year. We have people from NB all the way through to WP LTG so the whole idea of comparisons to previous years seems feasible.

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

Mine number of flights is down, but due to a StarClass flight earlier this year my actual SC's are up, for the same time of year! Given that, probably no surprise I did not get targetted.

Whilst it costs more to get new customers than keep existing ones, it seems that QANTAS is doing a good job of keeping it's existing customers. Why spend money doing something it doesn't need to do? I'm with Oz_Mark on this (I'm not targetted, not happy, but probably not going to switch my flying plans because of this)

The thing is, most QFFr's don't talk to each other. We shouldn't be misled and consider that the small core of people on this board that discuss these issues represent the vast majority of the QFFr's. We have quite a few WPs/SGs within my company, and none of us would be aware of whether any of the others have been targetted or not, its just not a topis of conversation. QF would be well aware of this fact, and fully believe they have targetted the correct audience.

I am WP and have been PG for 3 of the last 4 years. I have not yet achieved PG this year (ending 30 Jun), but have a MEL-CDG-MEL in J booked for end of April, which will just about get me there (and easily bring up my LTG :D). I have not received the promotion offer, but can understand that as there is no real benefit to QF in giving it to me. The chances are any further flights I do in this year will be with QF to ensure I do get to PG, so why try to incentivise me for that?

re: [Double SC's on QF flights] "Like complimentary Gold membership for your partner?"

True, but I know a few QFF's outside this forum (I don't know if they are on here or not) and we've discussed details of flights, the QP, QF promotions etc in casual conversation.

Your right, the majority of QFF's will probably be unaware of this promotion. On the other hand it may encourge QFF's who are doing a lot of flying already to consider flying even more, just for the SC's. (Eg on a milage run).

I'm a tad annoyed as it turns out I have earned 10 more status credits so far this year than I did same time last year, all I needed to do was one flight less and I'd potentially be earning heaps of SC's from my US trip.

I would not switch my flying plans either because I missed on this promotion but it would be nice to get rewarded occasionally and not feel left out....
