I've already said words to that effect.

But it's obvious they intend the phrase "during the promotion" to mean 9-14 August in this particular sentence.

Why a massive company can't get someone competent to put these things together is beyond me.
Totally agree re "during the promotion" but what does the "promotion period" refer to? Purchasing under the promotion must happen within the 9 - 14 August window, that's clear enough, but the rest could also be saying that flight gift vouchers purchased, must be used within twelve months to gain DSC's. I believe gift vouchers no longer expire after twelve months so it's a reasonable exclusion?

Bit strange about the flight changes not earning the promotion. So change on the day and you earn normal rates, that doesn't seem right.

I will purchase some gift vouchers during this promotion. Even if the double credits don't apply, not having to pay the credit card fee makes it still worthwhile

I do too. But this time I’m booking a flight. The other way is inconsistently successful and I’m not risking it.
Inconsistent but not impossible.

I haven't checked if there's a domestic sale on now. I already have a number of bookings October-December and I don't want to give Qantas money yet for 2019 bookings.

My reading of that line is that you won't get DSC's if you change your flight so that it occurs outside the twelve month period. "...and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period..". Unless they are limiting you to travel within the next few days, the promotional period has to be twelve months.

I agree. In fact, this was a reasonable exclusion even when GVs did expire, as the GV expiry just meant you had to make a booking within 12 months, but the booking could be for a flight almost a further 12 months in the future from the time of booking. E.g. buy a GV on 1 Jan 2018, use it to make a booking on 31 Dec 2018 for a flight in Dec 2019.

I take the "promotion" period to be the period 21 August 2018 and 8 August 2019. It appears to make sense when you look at fragments of the T&Cs.

Flight gift vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits.

Gift vouchers are now valid for 3 years so this means we can't use the gift voucher in 2020 and still earn double status credits.

Full or part travel of an itinerary is eligible only if you book and travel within the promotional dates as listed above. If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply.

Again, if you book your flight somewhere between 21/09/18 and 08/08/19, you can't cancel it and then rebook it for outside this period and still hope to earn double status credit. Which also means, if you book a flight in Sept 2018, then cancel but take it in Jan 2019, you should still earn DSCs.

Given the devaluing of status credits (I mean 2 x DSC offers in 12 months is usually unheard of), the cash cow of GV (and the % of people who would actually buy GV to strategically earn DSCs would be very low) and that PNRs are issued at the time of a GV, it would be hard for them to change their system to exclude GVs specifically for DSC promotions.

The original PNR (booking reference) needs to be closed and refund made to CC so brand new DSC booking can be made - whereas refund via the credit shell (voucher) normally retains the original PNR + date, so would be ineligible for the upcoming promo.

Thanks, I suspected as much. Haven't been keeping very active on my FF knowledge ever since I've been grounded with a new baby boy, thought its time I catch up soon!

Morning. This is going to be a stupid question I know, but I have to ask it for peace of mind.

I’ve only ever booked 100% Qantas tickets in the past for these DSC promotions, using the QF website. This time I’m thinking of using an agent to book the QF/AY J class deal to Europe. I’m going to book the QF coded and operated flights via Asia in J class, with AY onto Europe. Has anyone had experience of this and still received the DSC for the QF sectors of the ticket?

Cheers.

My credits came through yesterday and are still totalling towards P1. Perhaps this new promotion won't? Which is the change from March?
Not far to join the club. My SC were all counted.

yes. As long as it's for QF operated flights during the promotion period. You can book with an agent.

Talk about FAQ's !

1. DSC do still(as of now) count towards P1 qualification. Period.

2. It does not matter wher eyou purchase your tickets from as long as they are a) on QF operated flights with a QF flight number and b) during the promotion period (21AUG18-08AUG19). When one purchases through the qantas website it simply means QF is acting as an agent for itself.

3. Changes that do not change the original booking reference will not affect the allocation of DSC (from many prior experiences). The whole clause about changes refers to cancellations and/or changes made that result in flights being outside the promotion period.

Thank you :)

it would be hard for them to change their system to exclude GVs specifically for DSC promotions.

If it is hard to do, on their past record you would expect them to stuff it up unfortunately..
