Double Status Credits promotion (Book by 27/2/24, travel 28/2/24-14/2/25)

How about purchasing a Red e-deal, for example MEL-SYD for $160 (there is maybe a cheaper routes to start with, I didn't search), and then later when needed, paying the $99 fee to make the required change to the desired DSC itinerary. Would that work? Would that make it possible to fly a DSC at Red-e-deal (or higher) fare, instead of being constraint to a flex fare from the Mt Isa -> Cloncurry?
There is no need. The flex flight credit allows rebooking to a red-e-deal.
 
I'll get in before another person asks, again, without reading the thread. Yes, subject to the other conditions, double status credits do apply to:
  • Flights on Alliance.
  • Flights on the QF-coded flights operated by Finnair to and from SYD (i.e. QF291, 292, 295, 296).
  • Flights purchased using the Amex flight credit.
  • Flights purchased through a travel agent.

The formalities of the QF T&C say you must purchase the GV and redeem it during the booking period.

Which led to the Flexi fare trick of booking Mt ISA to Cloncurry for Jan 2025 and changing it later when you need it.

Actually, I don't think it's that clear. Note the use of "or" in a couple of places.

If you use a Gift Voucher for an eligible flight booking made during the promotion period, you will be eligible for the bonus reward. Gift Vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking (for flights that are not booked or travelled within the booking or travel period dates), won’t be eligible.

Qantas's intent is clear; the T&Cs not so much.

Separately, Amex seems to think a domestic flexi fare can't change the origin or destination, which I suspect is wrong information. It's also not clear what is meant by "equal or higher fare". Is that fare class or fare cost?

The bonus SC usually arrive within 2-3 days after each flight, backdated to the travel date.

Generally speaking you don't need to follow up unless you were subject to involuntary changes and need to claim an original routing credit.
Note also that typically those who fly at the very start of the flying window may have to wait a bit longer before DSC start posting.
 
After booking these flights by the 27th of Feb 2024 to qualify for the Double Status Credits or Double QFF Points, how long does it usually take for these bonus SC/Points to hit our accounts?

Do you have to usually follow that up with QFF?

This is important if you require the DSC in a timely fashion to hit a status tier. Last year, I missed out on F lounge access as DSC-eligible flights from early April did not credit DSC until late May.

Mainly aiming to retain status rather than gain status. So expect 4-8 weeks delay seems to be the 'Qantas norm'. Had a flight from LAX to PER thru Oneworld Partners where only 1 part of this trip so far has been awarded... so going to have to follow up later this week to get those extra points.

All current flights booked so far are in 2024, with status expiring Q1 2025.

Nah - the planes actually fly empty - Qantas just created the route to allow people to buy cheap Flex fares in the DSC offer and then change their itinerary later to be from their home airport to somewhere far more exotic.

I actually had it work to my advantage many years ago - I got home on April 30th which was my anniversary date and the flights without DSC credited to my account that day which gave me just enough to retain WP at the time and the DSC's hit the account sometime in May for my new QFF year.

Thanks to @RichardMEL for his fast response too; I'll be taking the Mel-Chch/Chch-bris-mel for 450SC at around $1800 (happily I've rellies in Chch so I'll crash at their place overnight).

That might be something I use one of my Mt Isa to Cloncurry Flex fares for later this year. Is it full fare J that gives the 450 SC's or ?

This seems unusual. Are you certain that the posted DSC in May (for the flight(s) in April) applied to the new membership year as you seem to be implying?

If that happened, that would be unusual. DSC apply to the membership year in which the eligible flight was taken - regardless of when they post.

I could potentially see a manual posting be applied to a new year perhaps, but the usual practice is to apply as per the date of the flight taken for which they were earned.

It was about ten years ago - seemed a bit odd to me but I think that it was the first time I ever used a DSC so I didn't know what to expect.

Not the DSC one but a Points club one. Flew on the last day of my membership year and FF and SC originally appeared a few days into the new year. Then a few days later the SC were deducted and noted online as Expired credits.

There was a double bit to that as well which was another FC moment and that was status credits from points club wasn't from Qantas metal 😂
