Double Status Credits Virgin Australia Activate by 10th Feb 2023. and Travel by 31st March 2023

Yup, Jayne needs some cash.

Forward bookings must be soft.

Good for me, I can just scrape my way to gold again for peanuts (no incentive to get to VA2 platinum anymore, no point).
Totally lost what this has to to with the CEO of Virgin Australia.

Velocity has it's own CEO, Nick Rohrlach.

Qantas also does DSC promotions.

The whole Jayne and Bain Capital bashing is somewhat OTT now. Let's wait for an IPO and what happens after for the truth.

I suspect someone in VA's management team needs to meet a certain revenue target for this quarter. Hence the travel window that covers dates up to 31 March ;)
I think it's more to do with the fact that with status extensions many have a renewal date of 28th February 2023.

So you can try and achieve your current status and/or boost to the renewal for 28th February 2024.

Which coincides with 1 month either which way 🧐😉

I was thinking yesterday, with the QF voucher redemption bonus ending tomorrow, QF may be going to offer one early feb. So perhaps they're getting in early.

Unlikely to travel VA in the period but registered just in case.

What would be the downside from their perspective to make the travel-by date a year in advance? Because that would very much incentivise me to pay now for flights in October or December, in order to improve my requalification chances next year.
Firstly the March limit forces you to potentially buy more expensive tickets. Secondly, they might be targeting people with a specific renewal date not too far away instead of unleashing the gates of another SC bonanza. If someone secures SC almost a year ahead that might seriously impact future travel patterns (less choice fares for example).

Just a couple of ideas. It could also be that after a crazy summer season they want to pump up the numbers even more to dress up VA and boast about its results before the float.

You can all thank me later.
Booked another 4 return J trips for us both last week so it was always a matter of time before they ran a DSC promo.
Happens every time 🤣
I think I had my hand in this too. Booked a return to Perth in Flexi on Saturday to retain plat. Bah.

An annoyingly short window

Well ... GVs ... or something to do with PNR ... etc ... Works well in the other airline, wondering if this works with VA .. someone in the know, perhaps can guide us ...
GVs certainly won't work, as they are implemented differently.

I booked my flight last weekend for a status run from 03/02 to 05/02. I am not sure if my travel will be counted toward this double status thing. Does anyone know if they will honour it as long as you travel within the dates?

You'd have to register before purchasing the seat unfortunately :(

By the terms and conditions, you had to activate before booking, and the booking date has to be between 30/01 and 10/02. So, I would say unlikely.

You could cancel to travel bank at no cost and then rebook a lower class fare.

Can confirm this works as far as DSC promos are concerned. I've done it before (cancelled a booking over the phone, received refund immediately and rebooked and ultimately got the DSCs for that booking). Although in my case ended up booking in J rather than a lower class fare for what ended up being a huge SC haul as it stacked with that general bonus SCs thing they ran a few years back.

Beware that you may run into a duplicate booking error -- I was weighing up J and initially tried to rebook a Y fare on the same flight I had just cancelled and I was getting an error that I had a duplicate booking. I guess although the refund to travel bank is virtually immediate there is a period of time before the booking engine catches up. That was enough for me to go "oh stuff it I'll just book that cheap J fare on the following service instead..."

Sadly, I booked mine via American Express Travel to utilise my $450 travel credit. I tried to cancel via AMEX for free but they said you would forfeit AMEX Travel Credit. No problem, I cancelled my wife's ticket and rebook it via AMEX Travel for a 10% discount on J. I tried a promo code but none of those codes worked so had to resort to AMEX Platinum Travel for a 10% discount.

I suspect you are very close to the money (or lack thereof).

Regardless it doesn’t matter if it helps a couple of AFF members who fly VA2 to get across the line to Gold again! Myself included.

Same sentiments here. Currently Gold, but will drop to Silver come 11/02 ... so this DSC is good timing and I also have work trips coming up before 31/03.

Side bar - do we know if the DSC is linked to the PNR of the booking ?

Exactly same boat.

Unsure re: PNR haven’t roadtested that myself with VA2
