Just posted on another thread that if your flexible I find the Transcon flights can be not bad value. Recently booked freedom fare PER-MEL for $665 and used a Platinum upgrade (Business Saver was $1300) It’s on the A330 aswell so hopefully no aircraft changes 🙏
Yes I had that plane on my trip to Perth - I was only in economy but it was awesome as hardly anyone on the flight so everyone had a row of seats to themselves. I loved the look of the Business class "pods" so took my first plunge into bidding for an upgrade on the way back - it was to be my first time in Business. Yes I was such a noob - I got the Boeing so the experience wasn't anywhere near the same. Plus my time to be fancy in the Priority line was a dud as they only had one customer service person open and the console was down  :D Oh well lots of lessons learned and will research better next time ;)

Thanks @Denali .
Good point , I will be flying 8 sectors by Dec 2019 so issue there. I checked again to see how many SCs expire and as of Feb 29 2020 , I will be having 679 SCs so will need another 321 SCs to go platinum.

I am thinking one way J fare on MEL-BNE-AKL and return economy. Hope this will help me cross the line without any hassles.

I ended up booking one way J class MEL-OOL-AKL on 7th Mar 2020 and return on 8th Mar but this side of the journey economy ( getaway) . Had some travel credits so wanted to keep the outgoing cash component less.

I was 99% through a booking last night (my 3rd one on the double status points offer)

Bam hit 12pm
So I cancelled it.

Was a lazy melbourne - adl- Canberra. Goldcoast -Sydney -Hobart -melbourne

But it’s ok.

I must say though. When booking business or any international flights. Booking through amex premium travel is so much cheaper.
$700 cheaper for 2 freedom fares to melb-lax return for July next year

I have never booked through amex travel just wondering about your experiences compared with booking direct with airline. Agree there international flights are better. Is there a cc surcharge etc

I had a flight from MEL to SYD , any idea by when can I get the bonus status credits. Generally the regular SCs and points are added in 3 business days , is it the same for bonus SCs.

Per T&C , it might take upto 8 weeks or so .... need to read through again but any past experience of DSC will be highly appreciated.

Previously it's shown the same as the standard status credit, just with the value doubled (rather than crediting as a separate line item in your account).

Booked a run to DUD. Now can anyone help with ideas on what to do between 0030 and 0800 there? Quite the awkwardly timed status run. I’ll probably see if I can get a taxi to a hotel room for a few hours.

IME, the bonus SC have posted at the very same time as the normal SC's.

Here how a Flexi Fare posted under Double SC's (normally 25):

Gosh, dont think theres even a nearby hotel to the airport. Maybe pack a sleeping bag and eye mask?

The drive in and out is about 30-40mins by memory.

This is exactly why I avoid the status run to DUD and instead opted to fly to AKL.

Please share your experiences once you are back.

The Bella Vista Hotel at Mosgiel is closest apparently. About 10-15 minutes from the airport or halfway to the City. I just looked and it appears they offer an airport shuttle but probably not at those times 😂

If you’re doing a status run to Dunedin, it’s well worth spending a day or two in the city. It’s got a lovely art gallery and an interesting art and music scene. (Or am I missing the point? I’ve never done a status run)

Yeah I might have to rough it at the airport (I assume this can be done)...

I might do a quick TR!

I'll check it out and it wouldn't hurt for me to ask anyway, they may get a surge of Aussies on status runs :)

Not this time I'm afraid, I've already booked it for the minimum stay. Good to know its attractions though!

Wow that's dedication! I take it that the dunedin SC run must have an incredible yield if it can justify the inconvenience of an 8 hour layover and the sunk cost of a hotel stay.

Although the T’s and C’s state AEST the booking system works in UTC, this is the reason people have had DSC posting issues when they have booked early on the first day, i.e. prior or 10 am AEST or 11am AEDT. Same goes for after the booking end time, your book would have most likely earned DSCs.

Just completed a double status flight and SCs were allocated within 1 hour of the flight. Unheard of for virgin and me

I had a flight from SYD to MEL on saturday night and I was shy of Gold by 70 points which were to be fulfilled once SCs were credited. When I checked the morning on Sunday , not even did I have the status credits but even my membership was upgraded to Gold next day morning.

In the case of Virgin, they actually work on a timezone in the US (sorry forgot the city, but is what Sabre bases its time on)

They've done an upgrade over the weekend. I had heard one of the benefits would be faster posting...
