Dragonair? HK-Hanoi

Would like to book award flights from Hong Kong to Vietnam but CX only flies to Ho Chin Minh City. We would like to go to Hanoi, but Dragonair have that route, is it not possible to get a Dragonair flight with QF points?

You should be able to get KA flights as awards - probably need to call the contact centre though.

actually I just called now - they said Dragonair don't release seats online. I can book but have to use 60$ and 6,000 status credits for each booking and do it on the phone, is that right? It doesn't seem reasonable.

But did you have to burn points to book that leg even though not available online ?

Only the usual change fees of 3,500. That probably doesn't help too much sorry!

A couple of years ago we tried to get that sector on an award and had absolutely no luck.One of the AA staff I spoke to said that she had never seen an award seat into Hanoi so we went with Saigon.

I flew this last week. Was going to Hoi An from HKG. Flew HKG to SGN to DAD. I took a VN flite to DAD for about $68. If you can get the minimum wait time at SGN domestic between flites would be advisable. We had about 3.5 hrs, SGN airport it is TOO long...! It is not a nice airport to wait for a long time. We then went DAD to HAN for about $60.
Off to Halong today It has been VERY hot here.

It was initially we had to change our itinerary from starting in Hanoi to the reverse.Then we got a very cheap J fare on AF-$A230 to BKK from Hanoi-was cheaper than any Y fare out of Saigon so turned out to be good for us.

I get KA options come up on the booking engine all the time, maybe this route just isn't in the system. Best to call.
