I would find the string quartet annoying.........we have enough issues travelling without 4 more bods getting in the way, seriously if you want a quartet high tail it to the Opera house!!

Okay, well this list is a bit semantic when you start eliminating economy altogether, but -

As far as the fleet goes, I think you're on the right track. I actually don't mind A320s, and wouldn't have minded seeing them bump off the 738s, but not a big deal. But I completely agree that some 773s or 772LRs would have been essential.

I say 'would have been' because we all know that they're angling to making it a primarily A380/738 shop once they hive off all but the Pacific/Kangaroo routes to J*, while borrowing the odd A330 or 787 from them to add capacity to the golden triangle.

So scrap A380 and have a fleet of brand new 747-8 Intercontinentals? Sounds good :D

New Qantas "dream fleet":

  • B737-800 (Domestic)
  • B787-800/900 (Domestic/International)
  • B777-300ER (International)
  • B747-8 (International)

Cheez, noob, for a non-QF member you do a lot of dreaming about QF.

Are you thinking of jumping ship, or are these really your nightmares?:rolleyes::mrgreen:

Wondering myself whether Noob's love affair with Virgin is over, and that he is thinking of joining Qantas. ;)
Of course if Qantas took over Virgin, he may get some of his wishes, such as some 777's in the fleet. ;)
He did forget to add extensive floral displays at the entrance to the plane and in all toilets.

Don't worry I am still 100% Virgin

OMG how did I forget the massive floral displays? Every check in counter/boarding counter would have one as well.

More like imagine if Virgin bought Qantas mainline and let Joyce keep Jetstar :D -

My dream Qantas - one that in five years time is still truly Australia's national airline, an airline that still has a great safety record and that Australians can be proud of, and is flying at least eight more international routes than now, and all with the Flying Kangaroo on the tail.

Do you guys think it would be a good move if Qantas had an overhaul and rebranded the entire jetstar fleet as Qantas?

Not necessarily. I don't feel like Jetstar in and of itself was a bad idea. Diversifying the product was and still is a good strategy. I guess the problem from our perspective is that Jetstar has and continues to be a way for QF to replace, rather than supplement, their existing operation with an inferior product. No amount of surcharges is going to make a Jetstar flight even resemble a QF flight. In some ways I would have liked to have seen them take the Air NZ approach to debundling fares - though the latest changed do seem like a step in the right direction, I think we all fear what is to come on August 24.

I would scap the 777's and stock up on 747-8's. I would love to see the jumbos remain in service....

Two is company and three's a crowd, as they say. Not a fan of 777s mainly because they all seem to be configured with 3-3-3 seating in Y. Unhappy is he who, like me, desires to sit by windows. But as your dream fleet only has premium, its an academic point!

Cheers skip

You'd rather the American 2-5-2 ???

I do, because how often do you see a flight full enough that the middle seat is taken? And in any case, no AFF would wind up there, because we all plan ahead :)

well with 2-5-2, 22.2% of seats are window seats (same as 3-3-3-), 44.4% of seats are aisle seats (same as 3-3-3). But, only 11% of seats are 2 seats away from an aisle, while on 3-3-3- config its 33.3%. So for that reason I find 2-5-2 to be an acceptable configuration. However, its important to note that I would not like to be seated in a middle seat in the block of 5 as a solo passenger. But I expect that would not happen to me as I am well enough informed and have sufficient AA and OneWorld status to avoid that predicament except in exceptional circumstances.

crazydave98 once pointed out that research shows the preference for 3-3-3 by passengers were because you had a greater chance of an aisle seat or the seat next to you empty:

Boeing has some pretty extensive modelling (called the Whitefish model after the creator's favourite ski resort) which explains why pax prefer the 3-3-3. Essentially it maximises the chance of being next to either an empty seat or an aisle for the most common range of load factors, and the empty seat and aisle are statistically the biggest drivers of comfort.

And how is that worse than a 747 or A380 configured in 3-4-3 ? The 3-3-3 is good compared to EK and NZ (new) configs of 3-4-3 in the 777! I can see how the 2-4-2 A330/340 config may be more appealing, and 2-3-2 767 config even better.

the A380 in Y is just as bad for sure, for sure, apart from row 79. Probably thats why I've never flown Y in an A380. When I've looked at 777 seat maps I haven't found the same hope level as the 747.With 747 at least there are the rear three rows of 2-4-2, and generally pretty easy to get those seats if you book early enough

Scratch them from my like to fly list then!

Spot on. The one way I have been spoilt by Air Niugini, whose 757 I miss not a bit!Cheers skip
