...and the chance of travelling in J on a 734

Well there is that. It's a shame that the outright best earning doesn't take into the hardware.
the 734s on the route catch me out sometimes. They sub a 734 for a 738 on Monday, unfortunately I didn't notice until I seat selected out of the exit row. :(

There is also the lack of a J lounge in Adelaide

Oneworld awards are always good value.

A business any seat award for 280,000 QFF points and earning ~1200 SC's? Hmmm....

Assuming not travelling in peak times then it is possible to construct a RTW trip made up of Any Seat Awards and Oneworld awards for roughly the same QFF points as a Oneworld Award. The one I have constructed has 3 stopovers so the challenge is to be able to increase the number of stopovers.

Quasi Business Class RTW using JASAs:

CGK-SYD-PER-KTA is 36,000 QFF + $661.67 or 107,754 QFF all/in. Earns 8,080 QFF + 240SCs. Extra 6240 if WP
PER-MEL/SYD-LAX-JFK is 128,000 QFF + $310.58 or 147,608 QFF all/in. Earns 15,091 QFF + 360 SCs. Extra 12,072 QFF if WP.
JFK-MAD-FRA is 65,000 QFF + 215.52 USD (~244.52 AUD ) taxes. Earns 0 QFF + 0 SCs. (Classic Award).
FRA-SIN is 84,000 QFF + 216.90 EUR (~312.70 AUD) or 108,411 all/in. Earns 7,984 QFF + 160 SCs. Extra 6,387 if WP.

Stopovers in CGK, KTA, PER, JFK, FRA and SIN.

313,000 QFF + ~$1530 AUD. Total earn 31155 QFF + 760 SCs. Net Cost 281,845 as NB minus Status Bonii. Total extra 18,459 QFF if WP, giving net 263,386 if WP (excluding status bonii).

Still need to buy KTA-PER and SIN-CGK (using points or cash)... I couldn't get KTA-JFK to come up as an any seat award.

Wow futaris.

You have got me thinking now. :D

Your work place not challenging you enough this week.;)

Not quite what I had in mind but full marks for coming up with a reasonable earning routing.

I have worked out an interim routing in economy which will be ~140,000 QFF points and earn some SCs but only includes places I want to visit and not transiting just for the sake of SCs. (Did I just say that?)

I will try to optimise my routing as much as possible but something in the back of my mind tells me that these (relatively) cheap any seat awards are not going to last very long.

And if you have some Krisflyer points to supplement your QFF points (or happy to slum it in SQ Y, JFK-FRA):

CGK-SYD-PER-KTA is 36,000 QFF + $661.67 or 107,754 QFF all/in. Earns 8,080 QFF + 240SCs. Extra 6240 if WP
PER-MEL/SYD-LAX-JFK is 128,000 QFF + $310.58 or 147,608 QFF all/in. Earns 15,091 QFF + 360 SCs. Extra 12,072 QFF if WP.
JFK-FRA is 17,000 Krisflyer (in Y) or 34,000 Krisflyer (in J) + 118.60 USD (134.50 AUD) - Alternatively ~400 USD in Y, or ~1750 USD in J.
FRA-SIN is 84,000 QFF + 216.90 EUR (~312.70 AUD) or 108,411 all/in. Earns 7,984 QFF + 160 SCs. Extra 6,387 if WP.

Stopovers in CGK, KTA, PER, JFK, FRA and SIN.

248,000 QFF + 17k or 34k Krisflyer + ~$1420 AUD. Total earn 31155 QFF + 760 SCs. Net Cost 216,845 as NB minus Status Bonii. Total extra 18,459 QFF if WP, giving net 198,386 if WP (excluding status bonii).

Status bonii = 8444 QFF. So, ~208.4k if NB (ignoring earning Silver/Gold). ~190k QFF if WP.

Still need to buy KTA-PER and SIN-CGK (using points or cash)... 300-400 AUD should cover it.

Meaning if WP, average QFF+AUD/SC earn is (250 QFF + 45 KF [in J] + 2.40 AUD)/SC or (250 QFF + 2.80 AUD)/SC

Interestingly, the PER-SYD-LAX-JFK allows one free stopover in LAX if you book using the multi-city tool. It does increase the minimum points cost from 128k to 162k though.

NB, if you had bought a LONE4 (~3700 AUD + taxes) and wanted to upgrade SYD-LAX, LAX-JFK, LHR-SIN and SIN-SYD, that would cost 72k+24k+56k+40k = 192k QFF, for almost the same thing...

This is great research futaris.

Have you based these on tables and dummy bookings on random dates or are these real sample itineraries with realistic timing?

I haven't tried booking it as one itinerary, using multi-city (or each any seat award separately). Just tried seeing if there is availability in June/July 2011 for ease of availability...

Should be possible to book it fairly easily for the 330-353 day mark though...

The following assumes that if a Classic Award exists for a certain day, then on the same day you can pick up the same Award seat using an ASA. (Similar to how we check for domestic upgrade availability).

The last time I checked there was quite a bit of J availability but I am a WP. And yes this is looking quite a few months out (about 250+ days the availability is quite good; shorter than 60 and it's starting to look bleak).

If you were a NB you just might have bucky's chance. I am not sure whether an NB can "see" a Classic Award priced ASA if they search for one. Since SGs and WPs see more Classic Award seats than lower status people, is this similar for ASAs?

As an NB if i can see a low priced JASA on a flight, there always is a award seat available on that flight. So no, us NB's are restricted for availablity...

I suspect the lower priced ASAs are when availability is wide open, only the higher priced ones correspond to zero NB availability.

Here's a sample itinerary, that works (for a NB):

08Jun11 PER-SYD-JFK 128k QFF + 326.56 AUD
??Jun11 JFK-FRA on SQ ~400 USD in Y (wide availability)
21Jun11 FRA-SIN 84k QFF + 216.90 EUR
29Jun11 CGK-SYD-PER 36k QFF + 486.55 AUD

660 SCs. Better to find PER-BNE/SYD/PER-LAX-JFK availability if possible. (i.e. different flight numbers)

CGK-SYD-PER-KTA doesn't seem to be coming up in Business today. Maybe the schedules have been tweaked a little, or someone is watching this thread...

If you want to route from Northern Australia:

CNS-SYD-HKG is 50,000 QFF + $535.98 or 104,774 QFF. Earns 200 SCs.
CNS-MEL-LHR is 112,000 QFF + $735.40 or 176,351 QFF. Earns 320 SCs.
CNS-BNE-SIN-LHR is 112,000 QFF + $632.54 or 165,687 QFF. Earns 340 SCs.
CNS-SYD-JFK is 112,000 QFF + $667.33 or 169,254 QFF. Earns 320 SCs.

Turning into another Quasi RTW:

FRA-SIN-BNE-CNS is 112,000 QFF + 505.54 EUR (730 AUD) or 173,902 QFF. Earns 340 SCs. 14,002 as NB. Extra 11,066 as WP.
CNS-SYD-JFK is 112,000 QFF + $667.33 or 169,254 QFF. Earns 320 SCs. 13,966 as NB. Extra 11,172 as WP.
JFK-FRA SQ Y ~400 USD.

224,000 QFF needed to earn 660 SCs. Earns 27,968 as NB. Earns 50,206 as WP. 7,333 equivalent status bonii.

So a WP, for 166,461 QFF + 1800 AUD net, can visit CNS, JFK, FRA on a Business Class RTW. i.e. (252 QFF + 2.72 AUD) / SC

Wow availability on cns-fra literally disappeared right before my eyes. Stop telling the universe about these deals. ;)
Or there are a lot of AFFers who are flying the route next march

21Jun11:
CNS-SYD-SIN-FRA 112,000 QFF + $635.35 or 165,976 QFF. Earns 360 SCs. A380 SYD-SIN too...
