Earn points on Bank Transfers

Can you earn points through bank transfers with AMEX somehow? If so, what's the process?
For the promotion discussed in this thread, it's possible if you have a BSB and bank account number for AMEX.

If you're referring to a similar process of using your AMEX card, say to pay funds into a bank account (you control) and collect MR points, then not possible.

I do recall a poster on AFF who was able to pay a (Bankwest?) visa using another credit card and collect points, though that was long time ago.

It is so obvious that every credit card issuer has already thought of it way before you did and put measures in place to block it. Every credit card issuer knows every other credit card issuer and will not allow you to pay one with the other. Anyone can test it for themselves. Just try and BPay one from another and watch the transaction be blocked or rejected. This is not new and has always been the case.

Works just fine in the UK...
 
Has anyone transferred more than the limits that citibank stipulates and still received points for all transactions?
 
Has anyone else had issues with PayAll payments to the ATO not being received by the ATO? It has recently happened to both myself and someone else I know.

I've previously made payments to the ATO without problem. I had setup a recurring payment to the ATO with the first to occur on 28 October 2021. It deducted from my Citibank Signature and shows as a transaction but the ATO has no record of it. In the PayAll details in the app there is no log of the payment under the "Completed" tab but the recurring payment does show up in the "Active" tab. I'm not sure if this is normal?

Also when I select the recurring payment in the "Active" tab it has the Recipient Details correct (Bank name and Account number with the first 4 digits blanked out) but there is no "Remarks" section, which does show up on all my other completed PayAll transactions and a new recurring payment I set up for testing. And when setting up the transaction, I did make sure the correct Remarks was put for the ATO payment.

My friend who the same thing happened to, had done a single once off payment.

Not sure if somehow the payment just didn't go through or if it was sent to ATO without the correct Remarks/Reference number.

I've contacted Citibank who have not been so helpful constantly refering to the reference number for the transaction on my credit card statement. It seems they really don't know how this PayAll thing works.

Just thought I'd post an update. After much back and forth and escalation to Citibank's complaints team, nothing was able to be done on Citibank's side. All they could do was request a chargeback from the RBA/ATO account which was rejected.

After contacting the ATO multiple times, a missing payment trace was instigated and eventually found the money.

So thankfully finally got back the money but took a long while. Don't think I'll be trying my luck again with an ATO payment through PayAll anytime soon.
 
Just thought I'd post an update. After much back and forth and escalation to Citibank's complaints team, nothing was able to be done on Citibank's side. All they could do was request a chargeback from the RBA/ATO account which was rejected.

After contacting the ATO multiple times, a missing payment trace was instigated and eventually found the money.

So thankfully finally got back the money but took a long while. Don't think I'll be trying my luck again with an ATO payment through PayAll anytime soon.
It is a mysterious one for you for sure but paying taxes is one of the four payment 'categories' in the Payall set up, ie designed for that purpose and promoted accordingly. Be a shame to not be able to go legit.
 
Lesson learnt. Citibank's systems are way too dodgy and their complaint's resolution process is so archaic, that I never trusted PayAll for any type of critical payment. I have only ever used it to pay myself or others closely related for whom it doesn't matter one way or another whether the payment goes through successfully or fails. Sure enough, over the months, a couple of payments have bounced for insufficient funds a couple of times and the reaction has been… oh well, no problem, fix it up next month. No sleep has been lost at all.

We just have to bear it for another 4 months or so. I think Oct 22 is when the "no setup fee" expires. Good Ol Citi has always been a pain to deal with - its products are like a yo-yo. It has got its highs and lows.

Don't forget that it is the set up before Oct, that means, you can set up in Sep or maybe Oct, and schedule it for another 2 years, and you would be able to wash your money thru for another 2 years until 2024, or until NAB shuts down the party.

I had the same problem! The payment details were correct as I’d screenshot them.
After 3 months, the ATO did a trace and found the funds and sent them back to Citi.
I won’t try that again.
 
So what was the problem? There is no difference between external fund transfer and PayAll, both are just BSB plus account number???
I believe the problem was (but it was hard to verify) that the payment from PayAll was sent without any reference number. Going through my PayAll history on their app, in the payment details there was a reference number listed for all the payments that went through to the ATO properly. On the one payment that didn't go through properly there is no reference number and not even a heading with a blank reference number. I had definitely double and triple checked I put in a reference number before submitting the payment on PayAll so I'm not sure what happened. And the same thing happened to someone in my family as well, and I very much doubt we both forgot to put in the reference number at the time of payment as a way of explaining what happened.

As Legoman said "Citibank's systems are way too dodgy". During this whole process I asked Citibank if they could provide me with the payment reference on the transaction, and was informed that they do not store that information. Nor could they tell me the exact date the payment was made to the ATO. The date you scheduled for a payment is not necessarily the date the money gets transferred to the payee...

Same here - I remember I had reinitiated a previous payment instruction to save time, thinking that it would copy the same ATO reference over but it didn't...
