So your saying I could earn 5pts/$1 with my Plat Edge card? :D

If true this could be a nice little earner...

Would only be 4 with Plat Edge unless you can buy a BP giftcard in a supermarket

Sorry my mistake, I got excited. But yes if I could be bothered buying giftcard's I might... I find I have enough points but not enough time to use them, much like the rest of the AFF community!

The bolded is disappointing. Dont reward your most loyal customers.

That's a shame. I chose BP for my novated lease fuel supplier as I'd heard about the BP tie-up. I'll definitely stick to submitting receipts from WW/Caltex now

Same - however using a BP+ card means missing out on credit card points, so I pay on my Platinum Edge card and get reimbursed. The lease company I'm with is very prompt with reimbursements, so I'm not out of pocket for long.. :D

BP are certainly not as competitive as to the other majors petrol retailers like Coles/Shell & Woolies/Caltex, particularly when BP lack nearby competing Petrol stations.

In fact, In the UK I heard directly from the horses mouth (a UK BP Site manager) told me that the company is the first to lift fuel prices when the oil price rises , trying to get the rest of the retailers to follow suit.
The company is often reluctant to match fuel prices of competitors unless they are in direct competition with the said BP outlet.

From my observations in Australia BP are certainly not price leaders when it comes to lowering the price of fuel either.

VA points may be beneficial only if the fuel price at BP is competitive with the rest of the industry I would have thought.

I think that definitely depends on the location. We have two BP service stations, a 7/11, Coles Express and a Caltex near us and the BP closest to us is always the first to lower prices and the last to raise them. The other BP on the other hand is always more expensive than our closest.

No doubt that is the case & depends upon if the outlet is company owned or franchised .

The franchised outlets are always more competitive!

I've never stressed about a couple of cents per litre. I have 4 BP's within 4km of home and 1 Coles Express which is always busy.

Always go with the BP as they're big and no waiting to get a pump, my time is worth more than the $2-3 saving on a tank.

With all due respect, the overwhelming majority of Australian Motorists are bit more price sensitive to fuel prices than that.

In Australia with only a few oil refineries in operation, fuel manufactured from the Caltex Lytton oil refinery in Brisbane for example is sold to all other the majors not just Caltex.

So in effect the various grades of fuel ( ie unleaded with E10, 95, 97 etc) is the only difference when you fill your car up, the name of retailer does not equally better quality fuel as with the likes of BP whilst they have two refineries ( one in WA & One in QLD)..... That isn't enough production for their enter retail operation & in fact they buy from the other refineries or even import.

Yes BP , has in some people's eyes good brand recognition, the quality of the fuel is not any more superior .

Why pay the difference?

No points on BP Plus card buys is just hopeless if that is true, given a BP+ card holder is hands down going to be the most consistent buyer .....but add to that the fact a BP+ card give you NOTHING except convenience. Why 'penalise ' BP+ cards ....crazy stuff.

Whilst I agree that the various refineries make fuel for all majors (and some of the others direct import), they do refine / ensure the spec of the fuel meets the particular brand's (BP, Shell etc) requirements and specifications (which differ).
