At the moment my theory is to use a Woolworths Caltex station with a 4 cent per litre discount. Pay for the petrol with a Wish card bought at 5% discount, representing approximately a 7 cent per litre discount. I will sometimes be able to buy 5 litres of Milk for $5 earning another 4 cents per litre discount. At best I will be able to get 15 cents per litre discount with all of the above combined but I don't know how I will be able to stretch the savings beyond that. I am hoping Everyday Rewards will have bonus points promotions for buying petrol at Woolworths/Caltex.

I have points selected rather than the discount so price wise it will probably make little difference to me. There are 3 stations very close together where I buy my fuel, including a WW petrol so the price difference between stations is often minimal.

we don't have much choice here. 2 independents have closed since the coles and woolies stations opened. I'll continue to collect points I think

After all the Shintaro10x clan can earn 175 points per week for free by doing 25 random searches a day on multiple accounts using the Qantas toolbar...

Buying fuel from the lowest possible source might be the way forward me thinks.

We are also using the toolbar to keep our points ticking over. I usually pick Woolies fuel over the others unless its a major price difference. 2 points on my 60L plus 1.5 pts/$ on my AMEX. Using a voucher for 4c discount would only save me $2.40 on 60L of fuel. I'd rather the 120 points.

I totally agree with the fuel choice. Infact used it today:

Spent $91'ish on fuel: 58.00 Litres to be exact with 2 points = 116 QFF.

Paid by plastic = an extra 136 points.

Total being 252 QFF. instead of saving $2.32 ish...

I infact saved around $249.68 to get the same points!

I used to take the points until one day I thought "Would I pay 2 cents per qantas point?" no way..... if you had a big purchase to make and they would take your 1ppd Visa for 2% surcharge would you do it? I would prefer to pay cash/eftpos...

I wouldn't be using a 1pt/$ Visa. I'd be using my 1.5pt/$ AMEX

If they are chargine 2% for Visa then I bet they'd be charging 3-4% for Amex The point was 'would you pay 2c per qantas point anywhere else'?

I don't get charged a surcharge for using my AMEX when purchasing fuel, which was the purchase I was discussing (fuel discount v points). If I'm already paying $90 for fuel, I'm not that interested in the $2 saving.

With the $31 for 1 point, you're buying goods you would probably otherwise buy and you're not offered the choice between points and a discount - not a fair comparison! Effectively, the point is free!

I struggled to justify Woolwoorths/Caltex with a 20c fuel discount. I certainly cannot justify it now with only 4c fuel discount. Not when there are another 8-10 service stations in the area with much cheaper fuel.

I have one 20c voucher left at the end of this month, after that it will be fuelchoice all the way. Even with 4c (or 8c with an in-store purchase) Caltex is simply not worth the cost when there are cheaper independents nearby.

Understand.

When you live in a real city like Sydney a suburb like Belmore has >10 service stations ~5-10 kms away. There are ~4 Woolworths/Caltex service stations and they are clearly the most expensive. There is one Shell that is not that far away and that is the most expensive one of the lot.

I would much rather the bonus points promotions but I understand that is not for everyone.

They provide Myer One so I won't lose that from Caltex.
