EK Cuts Flights to PER and SYD in Early/Mid 2019

I am booked MEL - BKK via SYD in F (obviously only F on the SYD to BKK leg) on the 7th June. It was booked with QFF points.
Obviously will not be able to take that flight anymore.
I rang the Qantas call centre and they told me to wait until the computer system automatically generates an alternative routing, which should occure in a couple of days.

I am wondering what people’s thoughts are on a suitable alternative?

MEL - SIN on QF35 in F, and then SIN to BKK in Jetstar Asia??

I was really looking forward to trying the Emirates First product.
When I booked last year it was on the A380, then it got downgraded to the 777, and now it’s cancelled!!
These things happen I guess..
Hopefully QF can find a flight for us.
Cancellation would be really difficult where you’d pegged an itinerary based on flights booked etc. Hope you get it sorted quickly. We were left bereft a few years ago when Emirates cancelled all flights into Doha. I found out here, called Qantas and they knew nothing about it. There was only one alternative flight that would work with our itinerary so we had to wear the cancellation costs because if we’d waited until a plane full of people found it we would have missed our cruise from Venice.

I haven’t checked timing but QF to HKG then EK to BKK?

I’d be happy with that!

Or even taking the QF Syd - BKK on the A330. I know it tops out at business, but I really don’t want to take Jetstar Asia if I can avoid it.

Ouch! I am hoping this doesn’t happen to us.
We have already booked a non refundable flight from BKK to HKT, which we know we may miss now. Haven’t actually organised travel insurance either, so I think I’ll be getting it booked ASAP!

I was also booked in F SYD - BKK using QFF points. I rang Qantas yesterday and they confirmed the flight was cancelled and after putting me on hold while she consulted her supervisor, arranged for a J seat to be released on QF 23 (I am WP).

I’m happy with this as I’ll still get to sample EK F out of BKK and I was refunded 30,000 points. New E ticket and refunded points already received.

If you get stuck having to go Via Sing and you want to avoid JQ (I don't blame you) there is also one flight from Sing to BKK on Cathay, I think it's daily.

I’d call again today. Be proactive and politely insistent.

How many travellers Pete?
I wonder how much the WP status helped?? I’d suspect it helped a lot!
I am just a bronze, so I doubt will get offered the same, although I’d be happy to accept QF23, and the point difference refunded.

I was lucky enough to get my first call answered by the premium call centre. She was pretty insistent that I wait for the system to automatically generate my alternative arrangements.
Do you think I got unlucky with the phone agent, and others may have been more willing to act now as opposed to reacting to the auto generated option?

Just one traveller. WP status would’ve helped in getting the J seat on QF 23 released. I checked online before calling and there were no J award seats available.

I’m actually quite happy with the result as I’m staying a few days in BKK and arriving at 4:40pm is a lot better than 1:45am!

Seems to be reallocation to other routes which suggests it's a yield, load factor issue.

Wonder if this will prompt QF to put JQ on say SYD-BKK, and or could 747/380 be reallocated.

With more 787s wouldn't be surprised to see 380 taken off DFW, maybe with 3xwk MEL-DFW to supplement SYD

There is nothing lost in that great acronym - HUACA.

I am also in the same situation, booked in J in September, and now possibly without a good alternative.
Is there a possibility that Qantas are now going to provide extra flights to pick up the extra demand?

Hopefully they do, Thai cut flights in September to BKK also

It’s odd because the QF Syd-Bkk is so busy (now to be even more so). Perhaps we will see this upgauged at some point.
I have flown QF23/24 4 times in the past 12 months and each time the flights were full, was a mix of peak holiday period (made sense that the flights were full) and also during the low season in Thailand, so was expecting a few spare seats on the plane - but didn't see any. Good to see this has turned into a busy route for QF and would also love to see either a bigger plane or more frequency on this route!

In relation to EK pulling out of SYD > BKK, this will hopefully lead to QF increasing capacity in one form or another to BKK.

And hopefully MEL can get some love with more capacity to BKK too, as the JQ service rostered on 3- 4 times per week, regularly departs completely full at this time of the year.

Wishful thinking - but QF metal ex MEL to BKK would be very, very welcome. ;)

Surely the best opportunity for XJ to have a go? Only 2 flights a day between the world's most visited city and Australia's largest city seems to not be enough.

The SYD-BKK flights probably has a fair contingent of us poor Adelaide souls onboard who are treated like lepers by QF :p

Unless WP or P1 I doubt anyone would get an award in J on QF23/24.On one occasion I was able to get a single J award on QF24 when mrsdrron as a WP could not get one released but pretty sure that was extraordinary.
Best OW flights for awards could be BA 16 SYD-SIN with CX SIN-BKK.Means an overnight in SIN though.

If you have the option, I'd take MEL-SIN on EK in F over QF any day of the week. Only thing you (may) miss out on is a spa session in the MEL F lounge.Otherwise your experience should be better in every way (food, beverage, service, quiet cabin).
