EK Cuts Flights to PER and SYD in Early/Mid 2019

It's going to be interesting to see how Qantas accommodate's everyone, as when I look for classic rewards right now the only Business Classic Rewards alternative to my MEL -> SYD -> BKK booking are with China Eastern, and are 92,000 points per person (instead of 72,000 points I paid). Would it be worth ringing to see if I can be moved onto this flight?

I rang Qantas twice today. First time at 8am, and second time I got through at about 1pm.
Both agents told me the same thing.... To wait until Qantas have organised an alternative, and if you are unhappy with it, then to ring and see what the options are. The second agent told me they have been instructed NOT to rebook anyone at this stage.
Obviously if you have status then ring!
But if you don’t hold status, I’d wait.
I’ve already wasted 1.5 hours on hold today.

If you have the option, I'd take MEL-SIN on EK in F over QF any day of the week. Only thing you (may) miss out on is a spa session in the MEL F lounge.Otherwise your experience should be better in every way (food, beverage, service, quiet cabin).

If Qantas can get me onto that flight, within a day either side of my current flight I’d be super happy!!!

Ah, damn. Guess I will wait and see what they re-book me on then.
Hopefully it is something close to what I am already booked on as my dates aren't that flexible.

I rang yesterday as soon as I saw this thread. I don’t know whether my success in rebooking was due to status or calling before any instructions were given.

The second phone agent I spoke to (I think she may have been from/located in South Africa, I assume Qantas out sourced a call centre there?) said they received a letter/instructions from Qantas management/Emirates on 12th Jan.
She actually read me what the letter said, which pretty much stated that Emirates are 're-timing' some flights. Emirates and Qantas are working together to re-schedule any affected passengers, and that if passengers contact the call centre prior to automated re-scheduling, NOT to re-book them... This is my version of what I heard, and not word for word.

I would say that status played a major role in getting your flight rebooked. And also that you were a solo traveller as well.

Has anyone here actually been contacted by Qantas yet? I'd love to hear what options they are offering.

Just received an email from Qantas saying that some changes have been made to my booking, and that I should ring Qantas at my earliest convenience. I was booked onto QF23 the following day - so about 20hrs layover in Sydney - YAY...
Rang Qantas and was told that they had received instructions not to re-book anyone, but I told them about the email I received, and have now been re-booked on the date that I originally wanted.

I received the email late last night as well.
They wanted to do the same thing with me samas112, and give me a 20+ hour layover I spoke with Qantas this morning, and was able to change to QF23 on the original day, I wanted to travel, albeit with a 6:45am departure from Melbourne to connect with QF23.
Let’s hope there is no delays that morning!!

I got the email on Tuesday, saw I had been moved to the QF23 the same day. But my domestic connection BNE-SYD had not been changed (would arrive in SYD 6 hours after my new flight to BKK departed!) so rang the call centre and got my connection to SYD moved to the previous night. Means I have to organise a hotel for the evening, but preferred that to being on the 6am flight out of BNE, at a time of year when there are sometimes fog delays.

Has anyone been able to change their seats for their new flight? mine has been given a EK5023 flight number, and doesn't let me select my seat. With my EK Booking it is showing as Confirmed, but not ticketed.

Within the last week I was about to book EK 418/419 for December 2019. Glad I held off. Looks like a debacle.

Smart thinking arriving the night before. I am a little worried about my early morning departure from MEL (06:45) to connect with QF23. I would feel a lot better doing what you are, and getting a late flight the night before, and overnighting in SYD (at own expense).
Think I might change mine.

I got my flight changed to QF23 (not code shared like yours has defaulted too), and had no issues selecting my seats. Are you trying to change your seats through the Emirates site? Or Qantas Manage My Booking page?

Not surprised, I was on the 6am Perth to Dubai flight on the 15 Jan and it was empty, 3 people in 1st, 5 people in Business and Economy was 1/4 full. I thoroughly enjoyed the attention in 1st....

When looking at making a paid booking HBA-xSYD-BKK return I am seeing Singapore Airlines come up in the results for the SIN-BKK-SIN leg, dates checked up to November show same options.
Anyone have thoughts on this.
