EK416 Change of Aircraft

Well the new suites are an attraction - I thought I could book them between Syd and Sin and return. If EK puts its new suites on between Dubai and JFK before I book that would alleviate my current annoyance and change my mind, but there is no sign of that. There is such a big difference between EK on the A380 and 777. I can live with lack of a shower - Mr FM doesn’t bother with it anyway, but the suites are so much narrower.

I was hoping SQ might not be so bad with equipment changes, but I guess they are all the same.

Most accounts suggest the suites on the 777 are more spacious than those on the A380. Both aircraft have 1-2-1, but the 777 cabin is significantly wider than the A380 upper deck.

well I have been in both and the A380 suites feel much wider! Maybe just perception..... if EK don’t change the A380 on the way home to a 777, I will measure both and see :)

I slightly changed my reply - probably while you were penning your answer - to reference suggestions that the overall suite feels more spacious - higher ceilings, wider cabin, straighter and higher walls.

i have just found a review that states that the 777 suites are slightly wider. Didn’t feel like that, but maybe that is true. Most of my displeasure was based on memory of the 777 suite being narrower. Really don’t care about shower or bar and the other things are the same. Edit - one negative about the 777 is the toilets are small - I really like the space in the A380 for changing in and out of pyjamas - small stuff I guess. Maybe I need to stop whining and wait until September and see how I feel after that :)

For those seeing inconsistent information on various platforms, to clear it up, EK416/417 will indefinitely change to a 777 from 01JUL18 onward.

Did anyone confirm whether it's the new or old interiors for the 777?

Wondering where this info is from? EK/Expertflyer show A380 as being put back on the route from Oct 28 this year.

I’m booked on EK417 in January and the EK website seat plan is for an A380

Similar experience here on EK417. Was booked for late Nov on an A380, but received a change notification by email which just showed a time 10 mins earlier (16:55 instead of 17:05). However when I looked into the booking I saw our seats were showing as "18A-8A " and "18B-8B". We'd booked 18A and 18B when it was an A380. Was a bit confused but then saw it was showing as a 777, looked it up and can see that our seats have changed due to the aircraft change.

Not ideal as the 777 business class is not up to the A380 standard. I shouldn't complain given this one is a QFF booking, but still - not a nice surprise to have it switched out on you! At least the second leg from DXB to LGW is still on an A380.

Would be nicer if it was a refitted 777 with the wider "Mercedes inspired" business class seats, but I gather that is unlikely?

Absolutely gutted :(. Have booked F on EK416 DXB SYD on the 19 October 2018 for 2 PAX using QFF points. I was just looking at Expert Flyer to check loading and noticed that aircraft has been swapped from A380 to 777. This flight is currently an A380 but as 1 July changes to the 777. Have been fortunate and done EK F before but in the 777 and desperately want the 380 for the shower/bar (particularly with a 14 hour flight time). Does anyone know if this is likely to change back to the 380?

Final destination is BNE and would be prepared to swap flights but there doesn't appear to be any availability. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Yeah. I booked son and his new wife on an F award Man - DXB - Sydney. We werent even notified that the 380 had gone from the second sector. They travelled last week. A380 from Man so they did get to have the shower but not from DXB. They didn’t like the 777 as much as the 380. Old style not refurb.

F in the 777 isn't too bad but I really didn't like J and won't do J with them again unless they have a refurb

We have a two night stop over in Dubai on the way home and will go in to Emirates and see if we can swap to EK434 direct to BNE. Means another night in Dubai but for me worth it to get the 380 .

At the time that was posted it was an indefinite change, however they have recently confirmed reverting to an A380 sometime toward the end of 2018.

Not sure how much truth there is to this, but the new 777s are supposedly too heavy to operate the ultra long haul routes like SYD, so the routes might always remain as the older product.

I have to say I didn’t have a problem with F in the 777. The showers are fun as a novelty but not that essential and we’ve never used the bar. We had good service, food and wine are the same and the suites were fine. We are on the A380 in a few days, so I will see then. I had remembered the 777 suites as worse in F, but they didn’t seem to be. It was quite nice having the smaller cabin.

I thought Emirates had mentioned BNE as a possible route for the refurbed 777?

Unfortunately the two of three aircraft's next year have changed from the A380 to the B777 so that makes all three flights on the B777 first class.

One thing I loved on the A380 was the self serve bar inbetween the two showers. What's the self serve bar like in the B777 planes?

The A380 bar didn't phase either of us too much so we're not going to miss that. I'm going to miss the showers but that's more of a novelty than anything else.

So I'm hoping the bar is stocked as well on the B777 compared to the A380.

Didn’t actually notice the bar in the 777 - was too busy drinking in my suite :). I know what you mean that little bar in the A380 near the showers was well stocked, but we don’t drink a lot, so what we get with meals was more than enough. I had an FA on the 777, who seemed to feel her mission in life was to keep filling my glass with champagne even when I said no :)
