Epic fail, Medhead. To the back of the class you go!

What is most interesting about the Senate Quota system is that the "excess" votes (above the quota) for the #1 candidate in a group are passed on in a very convoluted way that ends up being slightly less than full value. So if a group is gunning for 2 senate seats there is some wisdom in putting a 1 against the second candidate as that will be slightly more valuable than inheriting the second preference from the #1 candidate.

Or am I dreaming????
Epic Fail? in what way?

Between the example that the ABC shows and you, I think I'll go with the ABC and say that you are dreaming. In any case that gets into the question of distributing the preferences. I only said the distribution happens, I didn't say how it happens. Maybe if you gave me more than 1000 words I could have included the fine nuances of preference distribution. :p

But I do always vote from the bottom up for my preferred party to give the lower candidates on the ticket a better chance.

Epic fail in that most of your facts were incorrect, but I'll give you a C- if that makes you feel better.

But there is a more serious topic at hand - Wilson Tuckey is back! Like an evil spirit in a B-grade horror movie, he now inhabits the body of Andrew Robb. Just 5 minutes ago on Lateline he gave the most pointless interview I've ever seen - interrupting a reply by that nice Mr Albanese to give a party political broadcast on behalf of the more dim-witted conservatives. Someone should tell him that the 3 independents that he is supposed to be courting are not fools, and don't appreciate being spun by amatuers. Godwin forgive if these idiots get to form government!

Que? Sorry what "facts" were incorrect. Bearing in mind that I didn't include any facts but described a process. Besides that i forgot the +1 what part of the description was wrong? So far I just see you claiming I was wrong without any backup. Is that an epic fail in marking ability? :8

With one minor omission I say B+.

It would appear Tony Abbott wants new elections and I can understand why. ;)

I am ready to vore now. :p

I don't think anyone outside the media wants any elections at the moment. Hopefully, the independents won't drag this on too long....

It must be at least a 30 day campaign if a new election is called. I have the feeling even if we do get a government, the chances of it lasting more than a year before a double dissolution is triggered are small.

Agreed, I'm struggling to see how we will even get a government out of the current situation. And if we go to the polls again soon, my money is on Labor getting up, as I reckon there was a fairly strong 'protest' vote, and those voters, having had their protest, will revert to the ALP (from Green, or wherever they directed their protest to), because they sure as hell, along with everyone else, would not want risk a second 'hung' parliament.

I not struggling but I'm not sure it'll happen. The liberals have been totally horrible to the 3 independents. So I see that as unlikely. They do sometimes call them agrarian socialists. I can see them going towards the socialist part of that if it gets something tangible for the bush.

What do people really expect will happen by going to the polls again? Different policies? Do you really think some voters will change their mind?

...and given that many green preferences went to Labor, would it matter that much if those people voted Labor to begin with?

Once again I ask, are you sure that communism isn't a better model of government compared to this disillusioned democracy that we live in?

Frankly, giving everyone a gun right now probably does better than trying to hash out who will be our puppet leader for the next 3 years...

A fairly radical comment IMHO that would open up a whole other can of worms :!:
