Once again I ask, are you sure that communism isn't a better model of government compared to this disillusioned democracy that we live in?

Frankly, giving everyone a gun right now probably does better than trying to hash out who will be our puppet leader for the next 3 years...

The thing with a representational democracy is that it doesn't guarantee a clean outcome. Nevertheless, it is probably better overall than alternatives such as communism.

Come on

Communism is perfect

In theory

It does if you are the one rorting the treasury and getting away with it.

I think too many people confuse communism with military dictatorships.

Communism in theory could work but with the greed instilled in human beings today it is doomed to failure....

I like to think that it's the Least Worst system of governance. :)

We are living thru an election which will be history in the making.
Rolling Kevin by text messages and tweets going to Sky News was something that had never happened before. Trial and execution thru the media is not really conducive to long term, stable Government we all want.
Having family in the media gave us early notice of the challenge getting moving against Kevin probably quite a few minutes before he knew there was a challenge being mounted.
The betting agencies now have the money on the other guys by a big margin but I know there was more money put on Labor prior to the election day.

Read the history of Pitcairn Island.Over 150 years ago it started out with a reasonably pure form of "communism"but ended close to disaster.

And that was the point of the comment about the greed of human beings.

I totally agree and has been echoed by medhead's comments above.

The closest I can think of communism today is a kibbutz in Israel but even though they live in a commune there is no way they would want it referred to as a communism.

Just read an interesting blog. Some fellow with too much time has worked out if 50% of formal votes were donkey votes the seat situation would be identical except that it would be the Lib/Nats coalition against the Green/ALP coalition with the Greens holding more seats than the ALP.In this scenario would Bob Brown be game enough to leave the Senate and risk a by election to become PM?

What's the difference between a donkey vote and a valid vote?

Nothing much, a donkey still gets the vote.:(

I wonder how long until we actually have a result declared?

Also, I wonder if either party really wants to be declared the winner with the fear (realistic I believe) of a double dip recession about to hit the world.

Whilst I suggest that here in Australia we will be better placed to ride it out I don't think it will be pretty. It is a good time to be debt free.

I don't doubt that the coalition wants to form a government with their born to rule mentality.

For sure, as evidence by Tony's attempt to game the outcome e.g. flip-flopping between saying you're a fool to show your costings, then deciding to do so.

As a bit of an aside, I found this notice at the bus shelter on at uni.

It seems that the federal level is not the only place where democratic normality, morality and order is in short supply...

If you thought federal politics sucks, then no crude/harsh/disgusting descriptor can be appropriately found for university student union politics.......

I have said it once (or more) and I will say it again - the Monarchy just works! No elections, no dithering about getting laws changed just plain and simple government by a select few - which is little different to what we have now - a selected few are put forward by their parties/unions/backroom gatherings and then voted on based on the colour of their shirts. They then spend three years shouting obscenities at each other until we waste more millions forcing people to vote.

I'm not sure Cromwell would agree with you there. Is monarchy somewhat more expensive as well with all their faberge eggs and such?

Well Cromwell installed himself as quasi-Monarchy so held a bloody war for no real benefit...

And I think the queen generates more tourism revenue (and thus taxes) than she spends eating faberge eggs... And she only gets a payrise every 10 years. No pension either and she even makes her son fly himself half the time.

A few quirks have opened up based on the slow electoral count:
Lindsay Tanner still gets paid as a Minister of the Government even though he did not stand as a candidate.
Senator John Faulkner still gets a Ministers pay despite agreeing to cease being a Minister.
There should be questions raised on why the counts are not completed in a timely manner.

Finally Senator Bob Brown remains the only politician I know to qualify in full for 2 big Government pensions. His first was where he wangled and got his State Government pension in Tasmania from State politics and now his Federal Government pension.
Now that I believe is a unique position.Who is a lucky Bob then?
