Emirates Cancels Singapore to Melbourne Flights from 30/3/25

Just received notification from Qantas.

Was booked in First on points.

Have clicked on "change flights" but no suitable flights found.

I assume this is the same for people booked in business on points?
I'm working on it and will report back with what I find

This is the Qantas commercial policy for customers booked on QF codeshares operated by Emirates between MEL and SIN:

For paid tickets on Qantas ticket stock, these are the rebooking options:

  • Rebook to another Qantas Airways operated flight between MEL and SIN within +/-1 day.
  • If required, rebook to a Qantas operated Australian domestic flight to connect with the MEL-SIN flight.
  • If the same booking class is not available, the lowest booking class within the same cabin may be booked.
  • Where a cabin is no longer available, customers can be accommodated/rebooked on the next available Qantas operated flight in a lower cabin and offered a partial refund if applicable.

Not sure if the above would also apply to reward tickets.

This is what the above page says about Classic Rewards:

For customers on Frequent Flyer Classic Reward Tickets:

Qantas Classic Flight Reward tickets cannot be retained in credit. They can be changed or refunded. This must be done via Contact Centres.

Already under discussion from post 229 onwards :)

The wording says any ticket on 081 stock… that includes award tickets. The policy is not limited to codeshares as both the QF and EK flight numbers are listed in the policy you linked.

The only exception to the policy is that award tickets can’t be placed in credit, like paid fares. Otherwise, it’s lowest booking class in the same cabin (as the award).

Also had flights in J on 31st March, one day out! Had booked reward seats, and have now requested return of points (already returned) and a full refund, which will occur in 7-10 days. Decided to take a refund and have rebooked with Singapore airlines. Options with Qantas too limited.

So far spent 1.5 hours on the phone and they need to call back... love it

Interesting data point. Partner and I are booked on 2 separate PNRs in F (QF redemptions). I have been offered SIN - DXB - MEL all in F as SG. Partner is NB and the rebooking engine errors out with no options available pls contact so maybe they are prioritising based on status. But *sigh* will need to call to get us both sorted.

Offered and can actually book? It may error out.

Wouldn't QF F be preferable for 7 hours vs 24 on EK?

Qantas a330 biz class 3 seats available so all booked. Leaving singa day early but happy with that as tail end of long holiday. Cant believe Qantas gave up 3x biz class for $88 each and 75k points.

You're going to get a better business class product with QF too.

Can't believe that Emirates still have the highly inferior 2-3-2 business class layout on the majority of their 777s still.

Although you gained / saved on taxes, you lost on points as QF business seats are 68.4k pts / pp between MEL and SIN.

Don’t think QF F to Mel is an option ex SIN
My initial reading of the commercial policy was that you could book a connecting flight but maybe that only applies once you have arrived in Melbourne, and could not be used to connect down from Sydney to Melbourne?

If F can't be used via Sydney, can't imagine how many people would have booked in business class given the inferior product?

My wife had the same option but when you call the QFF says.... Well still waiting

Can confirm the following after a good 4-5 hours on the phone

Originally wife was booked in F and I was booked in J EK's (SIN-MEL) on seperate booking references

No EK flights were available after trying to initially get SIN-DXB-MEL, QFF booking specialist said they have been given a set of instructions on how to accomodate the passengers and the options are either be moved to a QF flight or cancel booking and receive refund/ return of points.

QFF booking specialist was insisting on re-booking us on QF (MEL-SIN) but ended up getting us on the A380 (SIN-SYD-MEL) with the wife booked in F & J (domestic) and myself in J for the entire trip.

Well done on persevering, seems like this will be what I will have to settle for. What was the explanation for why the self rebooking tool was offering the EK SIN - DXB - MEL?

Spent an hour in the queue and probably took the agent 25 minutes to rebook me but with no issues. Looked at my booking, came back and advised policy was to rebook onto any available service +/- 1 day. Booked my requested flight and after a few lengthy holds the new tickets were emailed through.
Excellent result and apart from the long wait time to speak to someone, well managed and understood by the call centre.
My original 3xJ emirates awards cost me a pretty penny in taxes and I’d love to get the whole thing recalculated to a Qantas equivalent but shouldn’t push my luck. Getting 3 J seats on daytime flight on QF metal is far better than the original emirates red eye - which was only selected due to difficulty in finding 3 J seats leaving AU… Id say the cancellation is an improvement!

This same thing happened before… i can’t remember the exact details, but I’m thinking it was a tag flight like SIN-KUL or something! They cancelled the tag and re-routes were offered KUL-DXB-SIN or something. That wasn’t honoured either.

I think the initial ‘via DXB’ was computer generated, overridden manually.

The details are a little hazy, but it was something like the above. That was of course on EK ticket stock.

There was no explanation apart from we have been briefed on how to re-book passengers and the only option is QF flights.

I'm QFF Bronze, I was put through to the generic booking agent and then to a specialist booking agent who was checking with a supervisor and the only option was QF.

I believe if it was a paid F or J flight then maybe they would re-book you on the SIN-DXB-MEL or if you held very high status?

EK ticket maybe - that would be up to EK to organise.

For a QF codeshare, routing via DXB doesn’t seem to be an option. The option is to MEL, or it seem for F, to SYD with an inward connection.

If you were forking out cash, would you be routing via DXB, or simply take the QF or even SQ options? (the latter via a refund of the EK flight).
