Emirates Cancels Singapore to Melbourne Flights from 30/3/25

Came in to post that article too
Im.kind of devastated
Was looking to use my QF points on this flight in F

Now im completely lost :(
I'm seeing quite reasonable availability on the SIN-MEL route in First for the remainder of this year, particularly the second half of November and the second half of December.

If I were you I'd take the bull by the horns, find an appropriate date and book. The worst that can happen is that the flights will be cancelled before then and you'll receive a full refund.

Booked EK F on this route with QF points for April.

Assuming it'll be canned by then which is a shame, is it probable they'll offer to switch me to QF J and get a points difference refund from QFF? Or will they just cancel given it's a points ticket?

Wouldn't mind being switched to QF F SIN - SYD then to MEL but doubt they'll do that!
What would happen to the insane taxes that EK charge out of MEL (out of SIN is still a bargain)? Will they get reduced if one was to be offered the QF option

EK carrier charges are generally 'insane' - the ex SIN to MEL was an exception.

Similarly I have one in early Dec.
No announcement on when yet will see what EK does about it.

If they rebook to SQ F, I wouldn't mind .. or if they reroute via DXB...
Is that even possible? assuming its booked withy points would they just refund you the ticket and the points?

Ive got a similar booking in April, my wife is in F & im in J but interesting what they will do?

Damn that's a shame. might need to book one last leg from SIN, always a lovely day in the sky that one....

I have 3x biz class booked on this flight sing to melb in July 25 - looks like no chance. All via Qantas points. Knowing Qantas there is no chance they will find space same day on one of their birds so it will either be cattle (with points reduction?) or presume they will just offer a refund and say tough luck. My interactions with Qantas in last five years give little comfort that they will honor any form of like for like if they lose a single dollar.

realistically when will they stop this flight? is it usually 2 months, 6 months?

Suspect well prior to my flights in July 25. Story i read said possible March 25. I'm sure thats a lot of people to find a solution for and it does make you wonder, when an airline cancels an entire route, thats a lot of displaced passengers. Those that paid cash direct full fare - what solution do they offer other than refund (Qantas wont take them unless paying Qantas fare rates which are probably higher than emirates). For those that booked with Qantas FF points like me, I think we are at bottom of their list at Emirates. They will just refer us back to Qantas and say its their problem as it was a Qantas FF booking. And experience has shown me that Qantas will not open extra FF seats lightly - they generally refund or offer some lame alternative days later.

Would they actually rebook affected passengers? Or would they simply give us refunds and tell us that we're on our own?
It really depends how you’ve bought your ticket.

If through *partner* FF points it’s likely EK will simply notify Aeroplan or Qantas that they have cancelled the route. You’ll then be entitled to a refund, or you’ll need to find alternative award seats. Aeroplan and Qantas have no obligation to find you other seats or rebook.

If you have *paid* cash for your seat, Emirates might rebook you on another airline. Article 9.2.2 of EK’s conditions of carriage say Emirates will select which of three options you can have if they cancel or fail to operate a flight. Option 1 is to accommodate you on another EK flight (can’t happen here), Option 2 is to re-route you on another carrier, Option 3 is a full refund.

But this is an EK choice, not the passengers’. So you might want option 2, but EK may decide option 3.

(obviously if you are booked all the way to DXB option 1 is viable, but for bookings only to SIN it won’t be)

My case was via Qantas FF so doubt Emirates will help. And I doubt even more than Qantas will offering anything helpful

I am so annoyed as I cancelled my SQ J flight for November 24, if its March 25 I will miss out on my April 25 bookings o_O

Yeah iI've got 3x paid biz class fares from singa to france return was scheduled to then jump on this reward flight back from singa. Annoying as hell

Probably too much capacity with Turkish recently joining the fray.

TK is often around $700 return.

One would assume they would continue to the end of the Jan School Hols.
Isn't this just temporary until the new planes arrive and it goes direct?

Depends on what your definition of "temporary" is. At this point Turkish is expecting delivery of the A350-1000s that can fly non-stop to Istanbul in late 2026, but that's a long time away and I wouldn't be surprised if that pushes out to 2027.

So really the Turkish Airlines flights between Singapore and Melbourne are here for the next 2 years at least, possibly longer.

They did say they ‘might’ keep the Singapore connection when the directs start.

I highly doubt that as the aircraft could most certainly be used on another market making considerably more.
