But going the other way (MEL to SIN) is $1.2k in taxes. Ridiculous.

My pet hate, the term taxes! $100 in taxes and $1100 in co-pay. That's what it is, not even a fuel surcharge or anything like that, it's pure and simple a co-pay for award bookings, and Emirates (and Qantas) know people will pay it.

Nesting trips and open jaws help. We've even considered (as living in Singapore) doing a weekend or day trip to KL to save it (SIN-KUL/MEL-SIN has very little co-pay as ticket issued in SIN).

I just booked HND to MEL (Via SIN) using QFF points for next September.
1st leg is with JAL and the 2nd leg is with Emirates.

And then I come across this.....

So now what ?? I am guessing that Qantas will have to provide an alternative since its a Qantas ticket.

Qantas will rebook you onto QF36 or QF38 out of SIN, keeping your JL sector, or move you to HND-MEL on QF80 in the highly likely case of IASC awarding Qantas the HND slot that VA are giving back in March.

They may rebook you via SYD or BNE, but that's unlikely given that the booking is a year away.

Do airlines cancel routes after they’ve sold tickets?!
I thought stuff like this was always announced 6+ months in advance ‘cos the tickets weren’t yet on sale for the cancelled routes!!

Not so sure about this, This is a route cancellation by a partner airline, and not involving travel on Qantas metal at all.

Why does QF have to offer a seat on their service?

This came up in discussion in the main thread on EK discontinuing service… QF is under no obligation to accommodate pax on their own flights. Of course if award availability is there, QF can book it, but they don’t need to create award space in business class.

Unless I missed an announcement that QF is going to cover all EK tickets?

You can't buy an award ticket on a code share , it'll be on the EK code.

Qantas doing the ticketing doesn’t give you protection of a guaranteed flight. The passenger is bound by the operating carriers’ contract of carriage. And as pointed out above, an FF ticket won’t be a QF codeshare for that flight.

This is no different to JAL doing a schedule change say NRT-LHR, if the flight no longer connects with you flight from Au, QF isn’t responsible for getting you all the way to london.

Agree. Qantas will rebook you on another flight of the same carrier per the rebooking policy. But the assumption upthread is that if EK cancels, you will automatically be protected on Qantas aircraft.

That’s not included in the rebooking policy linked.

In my example, if JAL has a schedule change that causes a misconnect, Qantas will reticket a new JAL flight. They won’t pop you on the QF1 from Sydney to LHR and assume full responsibility for the JAL schedule change.

The policy you linked refers to rebooking on an EK operated flight if the schedule change is an EK flight.
This will not get customers booked on MEL-SIN onto QF metal.

Neither of those apply to an EK award.

That only provides:

I’m not even sure that applies for a stand alone SIN-MEL sector given the policy applies to a Through Fare?
