Emirates Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

EK419 on Thursday 26 November left SYD at 2039, 54 minutes late with BKK arrival predicted at 0136, 41 minutes late.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

EK435 from AKL to BNE on Sunday 29 November 2015 (A380 A6-EEO) was highly likely to have arrived early in the Sunshine State capital but as with so many other planes was caught in, or more correctly near, the severe storms that lashed BNE and OOL this evening.

As a result its 1900 hours arrival has been delayed with touchdown likely at 1938 Queensland time. Its next leg to DXB will be delayed as the timetable calls for a 2045 hours departure.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Dealyed by the Wednesday 9 December SYD storms that commenced at about 2000 hours, EK419 from SYD to BKK, the 1945 hours departure took off at 2135 and is therefore due in BKK on Thursday 10 at 0214 instead of 0055 hours. Plane is B773ER A6-ECQ.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The horribly timed EK409, the 0330 MEL to KUL (and on to DXB) on Monday 14 December took off at 0421 and is therefore not due to arrive until 0842, 27 minutes late with the aircraft being A6_ECA, a B773ER.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

EK409 was delayed again this morning, not taking off from MEL until 0527, about an hour and a half late.

Because EK406, the 0635 DXB arrival in MEL, is not pulling in until 0817 on 15 December, the 'tag flight' on to AKL is expected to depart at 1015 rather than 0810.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Problems in DXB naturally adversely affect the operation of EK's TransTasman flights.

On Tuesday 15 December, EK418, the 1015 from SYD to CHC did not depart until 1101, pulling up on arrival 32 minutes late at 1552 hours.

The 0845 SYD - AKL, EK412 fared far worse, with its timetabled 0845 hours departure occurring at 1205 for a 1706 hours on blocks at AKL, three hours and six minutes late. Departure back to SYD (EK413) was however only six minutes late at 1836 (meaning a 90 minute turnaround) and arrival predicted for 1953 tonight in SYD, 12 minutes ahead of schedule.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

SYD's heavy storms (and Cronulla alleged tornado) may have contributed to EK419 on Wednesday 16 December (B773ER A6-ECO) taking off at 2045, an hour after its timetabled 1945 hours pushback. BKK arrival is estimated as 0133 on Thursday 17 December instead of 0055.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The Christmas Day EK404 arrival in MEL (ex SIN and DXB) has been delayed from 0850 to 0942 hours.

B773ER A6-EGF operating EK409, the unpleasantly timed 0330 MEL to KUL took off on Boxing Day at 0450. It should arrive at 0915, an hour late.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

EK405, the 1900 hours MEL to SIN and DXB appears to have 'returned to stand' as the EK website on Boxing Day expresses it. Any AFFer booked on the flight might be kind enough to elaborate: mechanical or electrical problem with the plane, someone who was suddenly sick or extremely nervous about taking off, drunk passenger who slipped past at boarding...any other reason?

UPDATE: www.melair.com.au suggests that EK405 will depart at 2130 hours.

The Saturday (Boxing Day) EK405 ended up overnighting in MEL and has been altered to depart at 2000 hours on Sunday 27 December 2015, 25 hours late. Crew being in excess of permitted hours would have become an issue given the quite long stage to DXB, with as one AFF contributor states the general maximum permitted shift being 20 hours.

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The 2225 hours Sunday 27 December 2015 EK434 departed at 2342 ex DXB but despite this is only an expected 40 minutes late into BNE at 0720 on Monday 28 December. EK406, the redeye from DXB to MEL arrived 35 minutes late at 0710 and is slightly - at least - delaying the 'tag flight' on to AKL.

UPDATE: EK434 departed BNE on its 'tag flight' 54 minutes late at 0919 and should be in AKL at 1522, 47 minutes late.

EK406 left MEL 61 minutes late at 0911 and arrived in AKL 47 minutes late at 1432 hours.

The Wednesday 30 December EK413 (due out at 2145 ex SYD for DXB) has been delayed until a predicted 2310 hours, which presumably means that 'the (anonymous) Ministerial delegate' has granted his permission for taking off after the 2300 hours curfew commences, which as one pilot contributor to AFF noted was effectively (commencing?) taxiing at around 2250 hours.

Going to Melbourne at 2320... Any ideas why MEL instead of DXB?

Re: General Emirates Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Flyerqf, it departed at 2319 and took off more or less bang on 2330 hours. Aircraft is A380 A6-EDY.

www.flightradar24.com did suggest that it would arrive in DXB at 0800 on New Year's Eve rather than the scheduled 0520 hours, but at 2338 AEDT FR24 altered that prediction to 0843 hours. It is indeed tracking 'direct to Melbourne.'

The QF website suggests that its stay in MEL will be from 0004 to 0110 on Thursday 31 December, but given that it only took off at 2330 hours on Wednesday an arrival time of 0004 in the southern capital is impossible.

Crew must not have had enough hours to get to DXB after the delay.

maybe in MEL they will move some people to the DXB (via KUL) flight that leaves at 3.30am.

Flyerqf, would not one expect the MEL to KUL and DXB 'redeye' to be full or extremely close to it given that it is Christmas school holidays?

Sure, it's an unattractive departure time ex MEL in my eyes (breakfast at 0445, anyone?) but when individuals I know have travelled on it (outside of school holidays) it has generally been well patronised.

One wonders where EK would rustle up a new crew for the MEL - DXB leg, unless a previous crew had sufficiently rested in MEL and the airline then changes the roster of one or two other sets of crews. (I am assuming that normally, both tech and cabin crew would have say c. 45 hours in MEL - two days roughly - as this airline's flights are not all nonstop to DXB and on top of that differing aircraft types form various flights.)

EK415, the 'first of the morning' 0600 SYD - DXB is normally extremely punctual but on New Year's Eve this is far from the case with departure delayed until 0915 (which was a few minutes ago.) Whether this is connected with last night's diversion of EK413 to MEL is unknown.

Last night's EK413 was due to be operated by the inbound aircraft from AKL, however on arrival that aircraft went tech, so they waited for the inbound flight (EK414) from DXB due in at 10.30pm to arrive. Normally that plane sits on the ground all night and operates EK 415 at 6am the following morning. That flight this morning was operated by the plane that went tech last night but was still delayed this morning by about 3 hours late.

The reason EK413 went to Melbourne is because it was turned around so quickly in SYD to meet curfew (they still left after curfew), so once in Melbourne they did catering and total refuel.

A380 A6-EON operating the 1015 Sunday 3 January DXB to SYD took off at 1217 and will arrive a little after 0800 on Monday 4, about 65 minutes late. The 'tag' leg on to AKL that is timetabled out at 0845 is similarly expected to be an hour late.

Another 'tag' flight, EK406 from MEL to AKL is forecast to leave at 1030 this morning instead of the scheduled 0810 hours while a third, EK418 from SYD to CHC is anticipated to incur a lesser delay of 35 minutes from 1015 to 1050 in departing from Oz across the Tasman.

A fourth, EK434 from BNE to AKL is suggested as departing an hour late at 0925.

As with the lower profile CI and LA, EK can be an interesting (and for infrequent travellers or for newbies who want a 'new' airline, exotic) choice to travel between Australia and NZ, but delays in Dubai (or for the other airlines, Santiago/ Auckland or Taipei) can adversely affect timetable adherence. With EK, it generally has more time than usually needed to turn around in AKL or CHC so if the flight from Oz is an hour or hour and a half late, it can still mean that the return journey back to Australia operates on time or slightly early.

EK404, the 2225 Sunday 3 SIN - MEL did not take off until 2350 and on Monday 4 will arrive at about 0945 hours, 55 minutes late. B773ER A6-ECV is operating this aircraft.
