Emirates Delays/Cancellations

On Sunday 13 March, EK406, the 0810 hours 'tag flight' from MEL across to AKL is not expected to depart until 1245. A6-EDM is the A380. It had diverted via ADL (departing at 0952) ex DXB so that presumably accounts for its late arrival of a suggested 115 or so into MEL.

EK407, the 1850 hours AKL - MEL on Sunday 13 March is expected to arrive at 2230 hours rather than 2050. It is fairly unusual for this flight to be late as it has a reasonable time in AKL to recover from any late arrival ex MEL.

EK406 on Monday 14 March - a public holiday in Victoria (and Tasmania) is expected to depart MEL 40 minutes late at 0850 on its AKL-bound 'tag flight.' It is suggested as arriving from DXB at 0706, 31 minutes late.

The Wednesday 16 March EK418, the 1930 hours BKK - SYD took off at 2029. B773ER A6-EBR is the aircraft/. Arrival should be at about 0930, 45 minutes behind time on Thursday 17 March.

The 'tag flight' on to CHC ex SYD is expected to depart half an hour late at 1045 as a result.

EK406 from MEL to AKL on Monday 21 March, the 0810 hours departure did not take off until 0854 (A380 A6-EEF) and should arrive half an hour late at 1415 this afternoon.

EK406 was again late on ednesday 23 March, departing frm MEL 54 minutes late at 0904 hours with arrival in AKL suggested as 1427, 42 minutes behind the schedule.

Given that the poorly regarded DXB airport is so busy, this is an occupational hazard with travelling on EK across the Tasman, particulrly eastbound ex Oz as flights often depart DXB late ad hence will be delayed departing from BNE, MEL or SYD to NZ. Coming back from NZ, it is not as bad because the planes generally have more time than the minimum to turnaround so in many cases late running can be ameliorated.

I say 'poorly regarded' because DXB consistently fails to make the Skytrax (www.airlinequality.com) annual 'best airport' ramkings.

On Good Friday, 25 March 2016, EK419 (1945 hours SYD - BKK) is expected to depart at 2030. This is due to the 'tag flight' from CHC, due out at 1655, expected to depart an hour late and hence not arrive in SYD until at least 1900, although the QF website does not yet reflect an altered arrival time.

Hi Guys

I'm on EK419 tonight to BKK. Currently flounging and there's no mention yet of any delays, departure still listed as 1945.

blackgoose, the lack of delay mentions may be because EK419 got away from CHC earlier than predicted, at 1736 (36 late) and is due at SYD at 1836, 21 minutes behind time. Your flight is a B773ER if I recall, so perhaps it may be able to pushback at say 1950 hours, marginally late.

nope i spoke too soon. Now listed as delayed, departure 2030 as Melburnian1 accurately predicted earlier..

as a side note, lounge very quiet tonight, all of 12 us enjoying the ambiance this evening

As it turned out, EK412 did not depart at 2030 on Good Friday but at 2012 from SYD, 27 minutes late, arriving BKK on Easter Saturday (26 March 2016) at 0128, 33 minutes behind time. Earlier it had arrived in SYD ex AKL at 1843, 28 minutes late, so its turnaround time in SYD was 89 minutes for this B773ER, only about 10 minutes faster than what is good going for a larger passenger capacity A380.

This small discrepancy tells us that many identical tasks between the two types of aircraft cannot be much faster on the B773ER compared with the A380 - baggage unloading and loading (and freight) must take a similar time, as may cleaning and catering.

Yep was strange. When i left the Flounge the flight was showing delayed to 2030. Arrived at Emirates lounge and departure was showing at scheduled time of 1945. Asked the lounge angel if this had just changed and she said nope had always been scheduled at 1945 but was now running slightly late..

Also the delay at BKK was waiting for a gate. We landed on time and sat waiting on the tarmac for 20+ mins much to the annoyance of the captain..

And felt the Emirates WP love J-F again, this time at the gate.. That's 3 from 4 now.. Almost getting to the point of expecting it now.. :)

On Saturday 2 April EK406's onwards sector from MEL to AKL is expected to depart 35 minutes late at 0845 due to the inbound EK406 being likely to land at 0706 rather than 0835, having departed DXB on Friday 1 April at 1105 not 1015 - and that is not a foolish joke.

It is handy to know that if travelling on EK east across the Tasman, one can generally check at say 2000 hours AEST before one toddles off to la-la land as to how the inbound from DXB and so on is tracking - knowing that if it is showing as 'late' on say the EK or QF websites it is (unless only marginally late) likely to be late ex MEL, SYD or BNE as the case may be departing to Kiwi land. This may not alter one's checkin time but at least it lets travellers know what is transpiring.

The same is also true for travellers using the Taiwanese carrier CI across the Tasman - an airline that gets good reports on various websites, perhaps not surprising since most who has been to Taiwan (I have) are at least vaguely aware as to the economic and democratic success story that this country with similar population numbers to Australia is. CI appears to be more punctual across the Tasman eastbound than EK, generally speaking.

UPDATE: EK418 from SYD to CHC is expected to depart an hour late at 1115 on Saturday 2 April.

Due to EK412 arriving 34 minutes late in SYD on Friday 15 April ex DXB, its 'tag flight' onward sector to AKL is forecast to depart half an hour behind schedule at 0820 hours.

EK420 on Wednesday 20 April 2016 (A380 A6-EOB) from DXB took off at 0341 (scheduled departure being 0255 in the small hours) and is about to arrive in often sunny PER at about 1810 hours, 35 minutes late.

The overnight redeye from BKK, EK418, is expected to depart at 2045 instead of its timetabled 1950 hours for SYD. QF continues to show the arrival time as 0745 on Thursday 21 April but that may need revision.

UPDATE: The onward 'tag' leg of EK418 (the 0915 hours SYD across to CHC) was expected to depart an hour late, but this has become an anticipated two hour delay.

On the evening of Thursday 21 April, EK419, the 1845 hours SYD to BKK, departed at 2022 with arrival expected at 0237 rather than 0110 hours on Friday 22 April.

EK406, the 0710 hours MEL to AKL took off at 0853 on Friday 13 March with arrival suggested as at about 1302, 77 minutes late. A380 A6-EDB is the operating aircraft.

This is one of the disadvantages of using EK (particularly eastbound) across the Tasman: if the flight in from its origin (such as DXB) is delayed, the 'tag flight' will also be. EK appears to have a worse timekeeping record than CI whose planes also at times do second legs across the Tasman.

Westbound flights (from NZ to Oz) are not as badly affected as the generous layover times in NZ give an opportunity for a late onbound EK flight to still depart on time from NZ.

On Thursday 19 may, EK420 into PER (A380 A6-EDY) should arrive about 35 minutes late at 1810 hours. This flight is the 0255 hours ex DXB that today took off at 0343 in the small hours.

EK433 normally departs BNE at the unattractive time of 0500 hours for DXB but on Friday 20 May, it was not airborne until 0659 with arrival estimated as 1435 this afternoon, 75 minutes late. B773ER A6-EBQ is the plane.
