Emirates Delays/Cancellations

EK404 the soon to be discontinued service SIN-MEL and oft late service usually due to delays out of DXB was again delayed by 1 hr 20 minutes due to a late departure from DXB.

This is delay allowed me to connect from a late MH607 due to intense storms in KUL which forced single runway ops.

This morning MEL was operating the east west runway in a single runway operation - usually because of windy conditions with the windsock blowing horizontally.

It is EK408 & 409 that will be direct and not via KUL as it currently happens - which happens from 30th October. It is not going to be discontinued, just the 5th freedom leg taken out and go direct.

EK 404/405 that travels via SIN is most likely delayed than any other flight ex DXB more often than not, as upon arriving in MEL if on Schedule at 7:50am, it sits parked all day waiting for its 6pm departure back via SIN to DXB. Having EK404 take a delay over any other flight out of Dubai has little to no impact on their overall network vrs impact risks will be greater with most other flights. EK404 being delayed simply reduces how many hours she sits parked in MEL from the scheduled 10 hours 10 minutes that she is awaiting its return as EK405.

EK406 MEL-AKL has been delayed to 1000.

Was initially informed at 0300 that it was due to late incoming aircraft so we switched to the 0620 QF flight as we need to be in AKL before 1500. But sitting in the lounge the EK plane has arrived on time at the gate. I wonder what the cause is.

First world problems but there goes my first EK A380 J experience. Hopefully coming back things run more smoothly.

Probably a maintenance issue that will require some time past the scheduled departure time. A swop to an earlier flight at that time of the morning would have meant some rushing to the airport in time for checkin especially a 0300am call for a 0620am flight.

Did EK call you at 0300 to offer you an earlier flight?.

Seems it was parked in MEL for 6 hours and 45 minutes for some foreseen reason. Finally departed at noon from what I can see. Crew issues maybe? Scheduled pilot went ill, and replacement couldn't fly legally until noon so delay the flight 4 hours?

Or repairs that were predicted to go past scheduled departure. Was it sitting on the Tarmac the whole time?. Did it go into a hangar?

Related to the above discussion about the Friday 22 July MEL - AKL delay, the returning EK407 from AKL to MEL (1730 hours) took off at 1837 and should arrive at about 2014, 84 minutes late. Aircraft is A380 A6-EOG. As the onward leg to DXB is scheduled at 2125, it will be delayed.

On Wednesday 27 July, EK404, the Tuesday 26 2240 hours SIN - MEL (A380 A6-EOZ) should arrive at about 0826, 36 minutes behind time.

On Thursday 28 July, EK418 (0915 hours SYD - BKK) departed at 1023 with arrival estimated as 1510, 50 minutes behind time.

What was the deal with EK434 today? Had it have a go around at 7am upon arrival at BNE - which was late a little - which I noticed as it flew low over my home and that was out of place for it. Then was still at the gate at 10am when I took off on CZ382, which would have it and hour and a half delayed on its flight over to AKL.

mushez, looks like EK434 from DXB to BNE's arrival will again be delayed tomorrow (Friday 29 July) with 0736, 71 minutes behind time, the prediction. Ask your relative(s) who may be at your home during your absence to keep a weather eye out for it.

Friday 29 July has seen EK406, the 0710 hours MEL 'tag flight' across to AKL departing at 0838 with arrival estimated 58 minutes late at 1343.

Further north, the scheduled 0915 hours SYD - CHC, EK418, has been delayed to a suggested 1020. This is a problem with travelling on these eastbound Emirates extensions of flights that have come in to the Australian east coast from DXB or Asian ports: they are subject to frequent delays. Westbound is not nearly as bad because the layover times in AKL or CHC are typically a few hours which gives the chance to recover the schedule.

PMSL - normally at my house it is rare to have anything fly over other than turbo props - but with the current 5:30am departure of EK433, that flies over if it takes off to the south. So is rare to see any widebody fly near, and normally is the QF flights to LAX if taking off to the south and make a sharp turn to the north upon take off rather than take a wider turn around the CBD.

But asking my wife, or neighbors to look out for a rare event of another EK Overshoot - will only have them roll their eyes more than they already do at my interest in flights, schedules, etc.

On Monday 1 August, 'tag flight' EK411, the 0750 hours SYD to AKL was amended to depart at 0820 but had not done so a few minutes later.

Just sitting in LAX F lounge and the board says QF94 to MEL has been cancelled? (lucky I am going to BNE)

While not an Australian-related delay, the media have images of EK521 (the 1005 TRV - DXB) at DXB on fire today at about 1245 local time, Wednesday 3 August 2016. Many flights have allegedly been adversely affected in timeliness.

Initial reports that the airport was closed to all arriving and departing trafific.

However the latest METAR suggests DXB operating again though its a windy day with some windshear at all runways.

On Thursday 4 August, EK404, the Wednesday 3 August 2240 hours SIN - MEL that was in the air at 2332 (A380 A6-EOW) is arriving MEL at about 0829, 39 minutes late.

Due to the aircraft fire at DXB yesterday (3 August), there were EK flights cancelled last night ex SYD. A quick look at FR24 confirms media reports that as at 0930 AEST there are significant holding patterns being incurred by flights into DXB, with many being very late.

One likely problem is that there may be a shortage of aircraft gates at DXB if departing flights are hours late. This can have a compounding - snowball-like - effect. I have not looked at FR24 for long enough to try to ascertain if some flights are eventually having to divert to alternate airfields.

On Thursday 4 August, EK406, the 0710 hours MEL - AKL departed at 0755.
