Emirates hikes up carrier charges on reward seats

Look at the bright/ positive side, a random search MEL-CDG return the cheapest cash price in J was around AUD7,700, so you are still saving around $5,700 ;):p:rolleyes: Jokes aside it is a pretty big hike and given EK were moved to the standard partners reward rates it hardly seems worth using EK moving forward.
It is outrageous! It used to be be nothing to redeem a reward flight. I booked many. Then it was + airport taxes about 50 AUD then it was + this and that and now it seems like + the price of an economy ticket. It makes no sense at all given alternatives. Very smart by Qantas because who would be stupid enough to do it? Okay there would be some people!

Smart is the last word I would use

This latest price hike is EKs doing not QF. My comment was made tongue in cheek, I have taken a few EK flights both revenue and rewards and according to my FR 24 EK is no. 3 on my carrier list with 50+ flights. It is not that many in the overall scheme of things (800+ with QF, 200+ with VA and a multitude of other carriers) however all of the 50+ EK have been in F or J. IMO the marriage of connivence between QF and EK started to go south when QF decided to ditch DXB and fly back through SIN.

i just checked my flight from jun 2020 which was cancelled due to covid, I took advantage of teh fact that if you book from HKG, the taxes were low

my booking was HKG to dubai to Athens in F, 131,250 miles +$192 tax

today I tried seeing what the equivalent is it says First class not avaible, well obviously to redemptions

not sure why its showing me FIRST but quoting me J
so 111,250 miles +$5000 HKD = $854 AUD one way, so a return flight is going to cost me $1700 (assuming taxes in F are the same

ouchy..... not sure if my dream F in EK A380 is going to happen now

absolutely horrible

Mrs D and I jumped on, what is now most likely, our last ever A380 F trip to CDG two months ago
And to think I was sookin' about $478 taxes one way. HAHAHAHA

Has anyone put together an indicative chart that summarises the now carrier charge pricings?
amd if so, where might it be located ?

Point Hacks is saying that Emirates carrier charges have just gone up yet again!

When will this madness end? It's not as though there's any award availability on Emirates to or from Australia at the moment anyway!

$1,700 one-way in taxes & fees on an Emirates first awards is absolutely bonkers! At that point, what's the point of points? May as well use cash to buy the ticket outright. At least then you'll have excellent availability and earn status credits for your trouble!

Round trip from Australia to Europe on EK in first will set you back $14-16k
If you are one of those with a stack of points up your sleeve $3400 doesn’t look so bad.
It’s not ideal and hope it’s temporary but it may even free up some availability

A one-way ticket from LAX to DXB has gone from $USD181 in taxes & charges at the start of this year to $USD816 in taxes & charges — a 450% increase in less than six months.

And people thought the inflation on lettuce prices was bad ...

Just to be clear - is this change to skywards award fees, QF award fees, or both?

In post #4 I detailed I have EK reward seats MEL-SEA (F) and at the time of booking the fees and taxes were AUD634, that jumped AUD1308 at the time of the first price hike. After seeing @Mattg post above out of idle curiosity I called QF to see what the ticket would reprice at if I added ADL-MEL sector in to the original booking. After the recalculation was done the additional fees would have been AUD1800 thereby taking the taxes to around AUD2400. No prizes fo guessing that the ADL-MEL sector will be booked either QF revenue or points + AUD40.

Start spending real money and stop sooking!

This is the new normal.

A lot better than the atrocious service provided by Q. You QFF people deserve everything you get. How embarrassing it must be to admit you're a QFF!!
I will just put it out there I was in the "spending real money club" As I am based in AU the biggest carrier for Dom travel will always be QF followed by VA. As for my international travel EK comes in just behind QF, given the rules and the partnership agreements that have been in place for a number of years I do not quite understand what you are getting at.

The game is well and truly over !!
I wouldn't be surprised if this is the start of many more devaluations across the industry. As Delta shows, it is possible to render your frequent flyer miles almost completely worthless and still be a highly profitable airline. I am certain other airlines are trying to work out how they can turn their miles into Skypesos too.
