Re: Visa Waiver Program ESTA application query

Thankyou for the helpful replies. The 'In Transit' for the address was very useful as the final destination is to Mexico after planes and bus etc..

More questions please...

As there are two people travelling together

1. Can we use the same application for 2 people?

2. If not, then do we need to use different IP addresses (computers) to lodge the seperate applications

3. Are the applications linked in some way to each other?

Thanks again!

Cheers

soothie,
  1. No
  2. No
  3. There is some crossover of information but a lot of it is individual. The form is actually quite simple and logical and feeds you through easily. As others have also stated the approval was instantaneous in our case.

Re: Visa Waiver Program ESTA application query

Another tip is to make sure you have the official page - there's been reports recently (mostly from the UK) of comapnies charging to process the form and/or mimic sites. So just be sure you have the official government website when you enter the details.

Re: Visa Waiver Program ESTA application query

Also, if you renew your passport after completing an ESTA application you have to 'amend' the original application with details of the new passport, which is easy to do.

In relation to the urgency of your passport application I think you can pay a fee to have it processed with 24 hrs, but again then amend the ESTA.

A priority processing fee of $78 is:

Available to eligible clients. Payment guarantees issue of a travel document within two working days. The guaranteed service of two working days is dependent on the passport office receiving all necessary information.

ESTA (Onward Travel)

I just applied online for the ESTA for the U.S
I entered my initial flight details (VA1) and received my authorisation at the final step (4 of 4).
Do I need to update the details to include my onward travel the next day to Canada, and then my return to Australia through the U.S a month later?
Sorry if this question has been covered previously.

No, you can obtain ESTA approval even without having firm travel plans. It is also not necessary to update your ESTA approval when you have firm plans or if they change. The ESTA approval is also valid for two years & no need to update if any more travel to the US occurs in that period.
You will still need to fill out the green immigration form with mostly the same questions as the ESTA questionnaire.

Actually, you should update your address information before you enter the USA each time.

This can be done using the ESTA online portal - you DO need to record your initial application number to do this.

Also if you renew your passport a new ESTA needs to be submitted.

ESTA 'paperless' being trialled on AirNZ

I have flown to the USA twice from Oz and once from Mexico in the last 4 weeks or so.

On check-in each time I was asked for my "ESTA". I showed them my printed copy with my ESTA number and all was well.

Last week, I flew on NZ6 AKL-LAX on check-in as normal I was asked for my ESTA. While I was digging it out the agent remarked that a BP would not print unless the ESTA was valid.

Anyway, to the flight. I94W forms were not issued however the white customs declarations were. Going through USA immigration channels all seemed normal, except there was no green slip stapled to my passport.

On checking in for the return flight on NZ1, the airline agent started looking for the green I94W stub - saw none and then asked if I had come in on NZ2 or 6 from Auckland.

Yeah, AirNZ is currently in a pilot trial for this. Also includes NZ1. Will be nice if/when it is rolled out fully:

US Entry & Transit Requirements - Cheap Flights, Airfares & Holidays - Air New Zealand Official Site - UK
Air New Zealand is currently running a pilot trial for all passengers travelling to or through Los Angeles from either London or Auckland on NZ1, NZ2, or NZ6. All passengers on these flights must now complete the online Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) prior to their flight without any exception. Anyone who has not done so will not be able to board. The trial is being run in conjunction with US Customs and Border Protection and the New Zealand Customs Service to eliminate the need to complete the green I-94W arrival form and help streamline the passage through US Customs on arrival. The airports have limited computer facilities at the check-in areas, transfer areas and departure gates in London, Los Angeles and Auckland which are available until check-in closes at 45 minutes prior to departure for each of these flights. However it is strongly recommended you complete the application 72 hours prior to arrival at the airport of your departure.

It is strongly recommended that any passengers arriving into Los Angeles on any flight other than NZ1, NZ2 or NZ6 should also have completed their ESTA application 72 hours in advance of their intended arrival date in the USA. However you may still need to complete the green I-94W form during the flight.
