Im not sure what to do - my partner and I are heading to CDG from BNE in business as a reward

Got on 24 hour hold:

CX: BNE-HKG-CDG
QF: BNE-SYD-(DXB)-LHR-CDG

and there is availability on ethiad/qf bne-auh-lhr-cdg or bne-syd-auh-lhr-cdg

Not sure which airline to chose! and if the extra 20k x 2 points are worth it for ethiad - not to worried about not going direct - the journey is part of the fun :)

any feedback would be appreciated :)

Trying to get to Seychelles from Sydney with AA miles in J.
Syd-Jnb on Qantas in J is 50K AA oneway; then buy Y ticket Jnb -Sey on Air Seychelles (not cheap)
or Syd-Auh-Sez with Etihad J: If I don't stopover in AUH, will it be 50K AA miles or 45K+45K AA miles one away?
(Sez = Seychelles classified as in Africa)
Thanks

I personally would take CX Bne-hkg-Cdg in J...that is already long enough (for me) and avoids the hell hole known as LHR which all your other options include. Etihad J is nice but nothing overly special (F Apartments is a different matter).

You can do BNE-AUH-CDG, the J product on EY 787 (BNE-AUH) supposed to be better than CX. You can also get bid offer to upgrade to F.
Or you can do BNE-SYD-AUH-CDG, just make sure you're on the A380 ex SYD and if you're lucky you may get bid offer to apartments.

I'd be pushing for Etihad J, its a fantastic product, the soft product is top notch, the service can be a little lacking but its highly dependent on the crew, the hard product is fresh and looks great.

IMO, once CX puts dine on demand back on their agenda, I think I will be more inclined to side with them. But I'm a foodie and DoD offers much more value to me.

Thanks for your advice - I am thinking I will go with Ethiad on the way over and Cathay on the way back

If you return via HKG on CX some days its an afternoon flight gets in before midnight.

Have 2 x J seats booked for mid April.

It will be two awards.

I'm not sure if there is a rule exception that allows South Pacific to Africa via Middle East on the one award. But regardless, none of the rule exceptions apply on EY anyway.

I was just looking into Seychelles for next year (need to book somewhere for xmas 2016) before devaluation....

Wow accommodation is pricey! Makes bora bora look cheap!

How come the CNS pitstop is better?

Stopping in CNS before BNE could be described as horrendous due to the timing. Landing in CNS at the crack of dawn, hours before you arrive in BNE isn't fun.

Going the other way is ok, and a good way of snagging 4 x J award seats We took this option a couple of weeks ago on our way to Europe.

Agreed. Outbound is fine, but I have always avoided the return flight that stops in CNS because of the coughpy timing.

It was OK while i lived there 23 years til Nov last :)

We snagged quite a few J seats on CX using AS miles

Once in HKG the world is open in J/F on many airlines.

Just to follow up - On Christmas Eve I put on hold
BNE-SYD (QF) connecting (3hours) to SYD-AUH-LHR (EY) connecting (2.5 hours) to LHR-CDG (BA) for 2 pax

Was quoted 75,000 points + $208 taxes. (I thought it should be 80,000) and had until the 30th.

Rang today to ticket - was again quoted 75,000 points + $208 each in taxes. All fine paid via credit card.

Reservation now showing "On Request" - hopefully all okay and tickets.

For business class? That would be 45K Australia to middle east, then 30K from Middle east to Europe. 2 awards = 75K.

God that BA tax is insane. EY from anywhere in australia to LHR is about $77AUD but because of that BA leg, it set you back an extra $100 or so in taxes.
