I flew MNL-AUH-IST and back last year in W class (assume it's similar) and got the VA points and SC's no trouble.

I'm doing it again this year and it should give me enough SC's for Plat membership until 2026. Quite cost-effective, really.

Do the Etihad flights count as sectors or do you need to fly Virgin?

From memory, and happy to be corrected, the only Velocity partners that are restricted from points/status earn are the Chinese carriers (JD, GS, HU) where the flights need be between or within Australia, China, Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong.
HX is a little different as the only exception is flights to North America (which I'm not sure they even operate at the moment).

Otherwise I think for the other partners (including Etihad) it can be any EY route.
Just need to be careful with EY as they codeshare on a lot of airlines, so need to make sure it's EY operated.

EY codeshares with VA flight numbers no longer exist. They disappeared about the same time QR became a Velocity partner.
