Europcar Privilege Changes in 2014

I received this email yesterday...

Subject: Europcar Privilege

Hello DeKa,

We are pleased to inform you that your Privilege Membership has been extended! Your new expiry date is 28th February 2014 instead of 31st December 2013. That's an extra two months for you to enjoy all our membership benefits.

Extended Privilege Programme :

· Your account will be extended automatically.
· If required, show this email printed or directly on your smartphone in any Europcar location.

Your new Privilege is coming…

Starting early 2014, Privilege is changing with new benefits and great offers.
We will send you more information in the coming weeks.

I guess they've extended the membership period by two months to give them time to make whatever the other changes are. Does any one know what they may be?

I received this same email back in December telling me my Privilege Elite membership (through Virgin) has been extended till 28th Feb. I've just logged into my account and seen my new expiry date is 13/08/2016 even though I didn't have enough qualifying days or rentals to requalify.

In regard to the new changes they mentioned in the email, the only one I seem to see is that privilege elite members now receive 20% off domestic rentals as oppose to the 30% we were receiving before the change.

Maybe they will make the free weekend a little easier to attain then...they would want to because loosing the 30% sucks even if we still have 20%

I just logged in and checked my Executive expiry date and it is now 9/1/2016 (was 31/12/2014)! Given the obscure date, I suspect it may be an error and may be changed back.

Annoying that they have removed the Accor Gold benefit - I was only going to sign-up when I needed to use it!

I have a similarly obscure renewal date now.....Although maybe they are moving to date-to-date membership cycles instead of calendar based.

Perhaps they have extended the renewal date to compensate for the removal of the 30% and also the Accor Gold.....Time will tell but maybe my next round of renewal with VA platinum will see me take up Hertz instead. I will be watching this one closely.

Upgrades with EC have always made the membership worthwhile but some of their customer service practices have left a sour taste.

Yeah Melbourne airport... after booking week in advance.... Had to wait for paperwork at elite level and no cruise control on car is disgraceful.... They better pick up their act.
Always book 4 door basic model and get upgraded in Melbourne from i20 to GOLF or i30....this time it was Corolla(cough compared to others)

Europcar has just put out an email to say that if you acquire Privilege Elite membership (a Platinum Benefit) it will now be valid for two years instead of one.

And yet we loose our discounts it would seem....not sure what the point of this is. The program benefits seem to have disappeared...

Massive downgrade indeed. Especially since I'm 1/13 in receiving upgrades the past 6 months.

Agree it's a major downgrade. Discount was the best thing about my Exec status. Given up grade technically only applies up to a standard or full size car, I'm never eligible for an upgrade, as I always rent premium or above (SV6's when they had them, Audi's or Merc's). I did once rent a full size/Passat from MEL, as I couldn't reserve an SV6 and didn't want to pay the exorbitant premium class price - they offered to upgrade to an SV6, then tried to charge me for it, even though I couldn't book it! Annoying.

That's correct, I confirmed this with Europcar on the phone.

I actually have 3 upcoming bookings in May/June that I made in December. I was told that providing I don't cancel them and try and rebook, then the 30% discount that was included in the reservation pricing will be honoured.

I would say that for any new rentals I don't think I will be using Europcar any more.

Well looks like I'm back on the phone to go on the other business account that gives 20% discount and you get a personal contact person for bookings....had it before choosing 30% do it yourself privaledge program
