I am planning a OneWorld award trip in whY in March/April 2013. The intended routing is: Sydney to Barcelona, London or Paris, then JFK, Santiago (Chile), Buenos Aires (maybe Ushuaia for an Antarctic cruise) then back to Sydney.

I like Barcelona, London and Paris but don't know what the 'best' option is from Europe to JFK in economy: AA, BA or IB, and this might influence my decision.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I've always found BA trans-atlantic to be fine and would be my choice...

It's a long time since I've gone AA intercontinental. AA is always suspect based on their domestic offering but int'l is likely to be considerably better. However, I always go BA between London and the US by preference.

From JFK to SCL, I would certainly recommend LAN over AA. LAN is also far better than IB IMHO. I find LAN a very sharp airline.

I flew from Rio up to Miami last year on an AA 767 i think it was, and they only had the main screen video in the cabin... Their newer planes may be a bit more modern.... The BA flight from Chicago to LHR was fine...

Thanks for the feedback so far. I do worry about the quality of US airlines' product having flown United from Tokyo to New York and back in Y, albeit a few years ago now. So I think I'll adopt the recommendations and avoid the US carriers where possible. :)
