I can't tell you how many times I've presented this card at Woolies and got a very puzzled look when asking them to 'scan' it... 'but its a credit card' hmmm

They look even more confused when I then go and pay with my Amex...!

I use the automated checkouts, so don't have that problem.

But I've had it a few times at the servo. When they go to reach for the credit card pad, I just say 'please scan the barcode on the back, it's woolies petrol discount'. I also make a point of handing it over with the barcode facing upwards so they see the barcode.

I tried one of the proximity readers on the bowser a few days ago. Pretty slick actually.

Wave your card near the keypad BEFORE you pick up the nozzle.
Type your pin code in.
Fill tank.
Hang up nozzle.
Total presented, including auto-4c/8c litre discount, on screen.
Drive off.
Get home, petrol receipt in your inbox for the email address you have in your EDR profile.

Same here!
At a WW Caltex they couldn't understand why I wanted it scanned especially when I chose QF points over the discount.
You'd think they would have had some staff training to wise them up before the roll out.

Part of the reason I got the card was so I don't need to talk to a person, however having spent five days in the country visiting family I didn't have a choice...

I don't drive however paid for mum's petrol and also got a funny look

Great concept though! I HATE carrying loyalty cards...

Until a new WW Caltex opened up about nine months ago in a very convenient place on the way to work I rarely bothered with the fuel discounts. This one however is very competitive price-wise and seems to be consistently staffed only by intelligent middle-aged people. They've coped with scanning the barcode on the Woolworths MC and charging the Amex without batting an eyelid. On the other hand, the young operators at the local supermarket can get quite confused.

Richard.

I constantly have issues with the bar code on the credit card. A lady in Woolworths told me I had to present both cards. I told her otherwise and she insisted that both cards had to be presented. I told her to scan the card and the points were recorded on the recipt

Ok, just got home from 5 weeks away and had received an approval letter saying to go in with ID within 14 days.

Obviously I was away so 14 days has passed, and the application has lapsed....

I suggest you ring them, explain your situation and see if it can be sorted.

The phone number is 1300 10 1234. If you use VOIP or have access to free national calls the number is 02 8276 0144.

Whoever designed the card is an idiot. It's almost impossible to read the phone numbers.

Thanks Frogger :)

I logged in and saw my "pending application" is no longer in my profile.

I'll call them on Tuesday and see how it goes.

Let us know how you go as I am in a little bit of a similar situation.

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone noticed the exclusion of business expenses which is mentioned in the Woolworths QF Everyday Rewards Credit Card T&C's...

^ Qantas Frequent Flyer points are earned through use of the credit card on eligible purchases in accordance with the credit card Conditions of Use available at everydayrewards dot com dot. Eligible purchases exclude business expenses, interest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances.

Has anyone queried this? Seems pointless getting this card if it can't be used for business otherwise it will take years to earn a flight if only to be used to pay household expenses

Thanks!

In fact a large number of cards exclude business expenses from eligible spend.
Whether the card providers can determine what is business and what is personal is another matter. There are also cards that are expressly deisgned for business, but also offer reward points.
The choice is up to the individual.

I will only use my card for personal expenses.... I promise :p (trust me...!)

Edit: Whoops... I just accidently paid my tax bill with the wrong card... again lol

As has been mentioned previously these clauses prohibiting business expenses being charged through the card are likely in place only to cover the card provider in case they need to question large amounts going through and the subsequent cost of providing QFF points.

Stay sensible with spend and they are likely to be happy to collect their fees and leave it at that.

Now if you get queried you should realize that under the Privacy Act I believe you don't need to tell them much at all.
Go the teenage answering method of one word answers to a question like:
Was that a business expense? Answer: No
At this point it is difficult for an appropriate follow up question especially if you just paid some taxes.

A you could act in good faith and not intentionally breach the terms and conditions that you signed up to rather than lieing and cheating your way to more points.

Yes on reflection simongr I think you are correct.
Only personal stuff on this one.

Certainly an enlightened philosophy - if only HSBC or Woolworths pursued profits for their shareholders along the same lines.

I was not aware of WW entering into agreements and then intentionally breaching those agreements.

If you are aware of this practice then I suggest you notify ASIC and the ACCC for all of our benefits.

If you are referring to them had nosing suppliers and screwing customers there is nothing in terms of breach of contract there.
