OK ..
Has this fare gone - I am seeing $3000 plus for RT from ADL etc?

OK I saw the VERY sporadic $1,750 RT ADL-HKG. But via Cairns and Gold Coast, and then Hong Kong Airlines, which seems very Tier 2 from reviews (only a cold MUFFIN OOL-CNS!!) and no lounge in Cairns of course. .

Nothing on Virgin metal that i saw offered. Was looking June-July.

The fare expired a few days ago (finished Monday night).

Actually I was wondering if the prices ex-OOL reflected the fact that HK Airlines service OOL, and VA simply dropped the price on their metal to match.

OK just booked today RT ADL-HKG $1,750 a person Business Class all the way, RT all in.

Seats ARE still there but a bit of searching needed. Keyed in SYD-HKG and figures were double this!

ADL-MEL-CNS-HKG-OOL-ADL .... quite nice connections too.

800 SC via family pooling via my figures - anyone disagree?.

And likely quite few miles too. Not sure if Plats get the bonus on this airline?

Computer gave me OOL-CBR-SYD if I wanted it, and more SC if we had bothered, but then got in too late from our last SYD connection back home. Have rellies in ADL so worked out pretty nice.

May be worth just checking your fare class to ensure you don’t get a rude shock... from ausbt although not sure how current this is
  • Frequent flyer program: Fortune Wings Club, but Australian travellers can choose to earn points and status credits in Virgin Australia's Velocity Frequent Flyer scheme instead. Just watch your fare type: the lowest-cost business class fares oddly earn no points or status credits in either program.

PH .. interesting point. Just assumed paid Biz would earn seeing these guys own part of VA!

Anyone have any first hand experience on booking these?

Booking does not show a fare bucket. Better pray it is C/D/J. :)

Virgin website only tells us this -

Endorsement / Restrictions PNLTY APPLIES/VLD VA ONLY/NONEND

Your date is likely "I", the first letter of your fare basis .

As indicated, your fare is likely I class.

I class on Hong Kong Airways Flight numbers earns nothing with Velocity.

However, I class should earn as normal if booked on the VA codeshare (as it appears to have been)....

Thanks guys. How anyone is supposed to unravel this is a mystery. :)

Yes all booked on VA website and the HKG flights have a VA flight number, so as per sefty's chart ''I'' class seems to quality for SC and miles.

Miles earn will likely be the 2 per mile it seems and Plats get 4 per mile?

Being MEL based, if my flights are ADL-HKG return, on the return leg, if I want to skip the final MEL-ADL leg, I have to ensure that I tell the check-in staff at HKG airport not to check through, correct?

You have to collect your bags when you arrive in MEL anyway to proceed through customs.
