It's operated by VA NOT HK airways long haul!

Yes I can see that, but it does not start Adelaide, as some of the discussion is around, and the HK Airlines fare is sold as an "I" prefix published Business fare by Virgin.

Sure does. I booked and paid yesterday using that promo code and fares are still available now using it

And I did a dummy booking and second jase05's point about the $1571 return J exADL.

would note you MIGHT need to scroll down the fare list to find the promo fare

My flights are “I” prefix all the way. ADL-MEL, MEL-HKG and same in return. If I could work out how to post my invoice I would show you

Velocity earning is based on marketing carrier and marketed fare bucket with some caveats regarding operating carrier that would mean no earn at all. HX is not one of those.

Z class is velocity business reward so I highly doubt you are booked in that class on a VA*HX codeshare.

Good point Ross ...I'll need to ask Virgin for sure. And if THEY say it earns I do not care what class HK think it is in. Talk abut complex!

No.

When travelling domestic to international such as ADL-MEL-HKG, you check your bags in at ADL, they are tagged MEL HKG and you will not see them until arrival at HKG.

When travelling international to domestic, such as HKG-MEL-ADL, your bags are tagged MEL ADL, but on arrival into MEL, you collect your bags before being processed by Customs. You then are supposed to redeposit them at MEL before heading to ADL.

The reason for this is that on arrival back into Australia on this routing, MEL is your "Entry" point.

Thanks for that. I assume I will get the all the SC except for the last leg MEL-ADL if I collect my bags and throw away the final leg?

And possibly a huge re-fare demand as you were clearly told earlier. What you are suggesting is technically not permitted.

Legal Issues With Hidden City Ticketing
Unsurprisingly, Skiplagged was sued by United Airlines because hidden city ticketing is in their fine print as a breach of contract. Orbitz also found it to be in violation of their contract with United and also sued.

If you use hidden city ticketing regularly, you may find yourself in legal trouble. Even more likely, if you do this regularly, some airlines will kick you out of their rewards program.

May not amount to anything but I’d be giving that a go. I can still see flights for those dates for $1594pp return on VA metal all the way and it even goes via SYD on return home if you wanted to jump off in Sydney

thanks I just booked flights out of the gold coast to HK business for 1598, 27/12/2018 to 5/01/2019, which is normally a really expensive period and is when I have enforced leave at work.

Via SYD in both directions?
As you said, great price for anytime of the year let alone around Christmas

Thanks for the info guys - I've booked MCY-SYD-HKG-SYD-MCY for $1,595. There was no online seat selection but the call centre rectified it in a couple of minutes.

Say if I booked the same route, and on the return leg, as I am based in SYD, I skip the flight to MCY. Would that have any implication on the SC/points earn on the previous sectors? Would I even have the opportunity to pick up my bags at SYD or would they just get put straight through to MCY?

I’m in the exact same situation. I’m thinking of going HLO as bags definitely get checked straight through.

Unsure re points / credits. I’d expect you’d get per whatever you fly.

Some folks in life read and follow the rules, and some do not. :(

People are allowed to make their own decisions, that’s the risk you take.
No doubt if you do it regularly you will get caught but for a once off you will more than likely be fine. Many people do it and get it away with it, risk v reward I suppose

If it breaches the Velocity Rules - as it does for many other FF schemes, they can and do if they wish, cancel all SC, and indeed can and do at times confiscate all earned points in accounts.

Risk vs Reward indeed. If you or others feel you are smarter than Airlines computer systems, good on you.

For me, the $100 one way fare back lets me sleep at night. And means my 700,000 miles cannot be forfeited.

I’ve done it once several years ago and it’s probably not something I’d do again but like all things in life people can choose do the right or wrong thing. As you said if people want to risk their points for the sake of $100 then that’s their choice

Gee you are quick, I deleted my post soon afterwards as I hadn't noticed a similar question was posted earlier, so I had my answer.. Might be worth doing the extra sector for the SCs alone (in addition to the risk factor and also if time is not important).
