Expiring Krisflyer Miles - When can I travel?

So my turn now.

Went to cancel a redemption online today, says my 80K KF miles are expired so wont be refunded. Please call SIA to cancel.
However none are expiring till end July and they are getting extended to Jan 2023 anyway.
these will be my first extension when end July rolls around.

guess I have to ring and argue my case?
a large chunk of my points expire end of this month as per the monthly Krisflyer newsletters however I'm cancelling a redemption now and they are adamant that the points expired on 30 June...

I'm arguing that the monthly newsletters should say 30 June expiry then, not July.

EDIT: success!

Can someone tell me exactly how they got their miles back, please? I spent a long time on the phone to the redemption centre today only to be told that my 290,000 miles that were due to expire in Apr 2022 were forfeit when I cancelled my redemption booking. I was told that there was nothing that could be done.

See here:

In short, it was just a matter of hassling them (almost daily in my case) to reinstate the expired miles.

I used Krisbot (when I could even get through), and the SQ Socials email address. I just stated the facts that the miles would have not expired had they been in the account, and it was a system glitch that caused miles attached to bookings to be wiped out upon refund.

Try as much as you can until you get the desired result.

Good luck @JennyH.

Can flights be booked with a travel date that is after the expiry date of the points? Or do I need to book AND fly before the expiry date?

I have points expiring at the end of the year and just want to know if I can use the points before they expire but for travel in 2023.

As long as the points are used/redeemed before the expiry , the travel date has no bearing.

Thanks @MathNerd. I have sent off the first of my emails this morning and will see if persistence pays off. Fingers crossed
No worries, all the best. Persistence will certainly pay off, just have to have your email read by and/or your phone call answered by someone that knows what they're doing and understands your predicament.

Please do update everyone back here when you do get them back!

Hoping someone can confirm my question about miles expiry please.
I transferred from VA in March 2020 and can see from the website that miles have been extended twice. First to September 22 and then to March 23.
However in June I redeemed miles for a flight that I am now considering cancelling. My question is - does this redemption affect the extension through to March 23? I'm concerned that if I get the points back in my account I will need to use them by September 22, or indeed lose them immediately.

cough! forgot to cancel a J redemption once I'd secured a F one on the same flight.

Now to argue for the return of the points as they have technically expired.. grr
Which should have been extended till Jan 2023 if I'd done nothing

Keen to know how you get on as I am waiting for a refund for which I filled in the form in May and know some of the points will have expired during the booking period. Tried that chat twice now. One stayed on for an hour in the “queue” only for it to drop out. Today I tried and after 10 mins it just terminated it saying all service reps are busy please go to contact us.

I only emailed so let's see what they reply.
My double flight not till 30/8

Isn't SQ policy any points expiring in 2022 get an extra 6 months, so those points should roll to March 2023.

Yes provided you haven't used them for a redemption which you then cancel

Happy to report back that my expired points were refunded today! I ended up emailing them every second day or so for three weeks. In case it's useful to anyone, in the end simply emailing the table from my account that showed the expired miles together with the quote from their website that says "no miles will expire in 2022" worked.

Good luck
Jenny

And refund just came through without having to argue the miles extension

Now extended till June 2023. They cancelled 7-8hrs before the flight took off.

Suites from FRA.. here I come :D

Taken a week of back and forth emails to acknowledge the refund of my points and that they won’t expire.

Still have not seen them come through yet so hopefully they are the same as yours.

Hi all, I have been reading above conversations. I am in a situation where I just tried to cancel award ticks 606,000 points online for September and was met with confusing "your points expired" etc but underneath is said no points will expire in 2022. Can anyone advise whether I should just cancel the tickets and contact KF to try to refund the points, what are my chances and if so how to contact? I know phone and chat is not happening for me. No call back when arranged. I would appreciate any advice on this.

Email them and say you wish to cancel and pay the applicable cancellation fees but please do not let the points expire as if you hadn't tried to use them by making a redemption they wouldn't be expiring till Jan 2023 or whatever date is, so please just extend them to that date
