EY / CX / JL F reviews

JAL don't serve their premium champagne on the ground so glass orange juice will do before takeoff.

The CSM came to introduce herself followed by the FA who delivered amenity kits, pyjamas and the menus. As usual it was all women crew, I'm sure there are some but I've never seen men crew in J or F.

I like both Western and Japanese food on JL so didn't know what to select. Looked around and noticed all pax in the cabin are Japanese. Now I know JL don't load 8 meals of each choice so decided to go for the Western since it makes little difference to me but may a be big deal for other pax.

Once! I had a male crew member in J between Shanghai and Tokyo!! Come to think of it he might have been banished to the galley, but he struck up a conversation as we were waiting for the jetbridge to be connected.

Nice gesture! Again on the short Shanghai-Tokyo and vv I'm usually asked if I'd mind foregoing a choice and having the western meal as Japanese pax would want the japanese option. This was in business but for such a short flight so not so much of a big deal (and I'm not sure I'd appreciate a lot of what was on the menu anyway!)

Great TR - many thanks - think I need to buy some AA miles and try the EY F!!

Great trip report boomy. I’m really enjoying it.

I did CX F HND-HKG on the B747 and it was one of the most enjoyable F flights I’ve done. I thought the CX Japanese F meal was better than JAL F. The cabin & service too. I do have a soft spot for the B747 and will be sorry to see it go.

Good news, free wifi is back on JL F!

Wifi in F used to be free for a while then at some point last year JL began to charge for it which was disappointing. Now they are back to offer vouchers again. Hope it will stay free for longer this time.
Unlike on other airlines, JL wifi works very well.
EY for example charges F pax but provide much slower wifi so I don't bother purchasing it anymore.

JL have the best NC headphones.

Don't know how often they replace the headphones but somehow they always look in mint condition.

After takeoff FA finally popped the good stuff.

Followed by a nice looking appetizer.

Mandatory caviar and champagne dish :)

I'm not sure why, maybe because I was the only western in the cabin, it felt like I received special attention from the FAs. JL service is always good but this time it was exceptional. One of them could speak English quite well and it certainly helped with communication.

At some point about 3 hours into the flight Salon run out which is not uncommon. The other choice on the menu was Henriot Rosé, didn't feel like it and anyway was about to have just one more glass before going to sleep so decided to forget about it. Suddenly the FA came out behind the curtain holding a familiar bottle and said "I'm sorry we run out of Salon 2004, would you mind having the 2002 vintage instead?"

Would I mind?! Actually prefer the previous vintage!
Only JL can run out of the best champagne and somehow manage to offer an even better one. Lol
Looked around in the cabin and saw everyone but me were sleeping by now. Guess it means I have this bottle all to myself, sweet!
Sleeping is overrated anyway...

For those who like Ramen I highly recommend the one on JL, good midnight snack.

I did managed to sleep a bit eventually and by the time I woke up everyone were having breakfast. Didn't feel too hungry so went for the light Japanese option.

Finished with fruits and their awesome coffee.

A few examples that show how attentive is the service onboard JL:
Each time when going to use the toilets and there was FA near by they rushed to open the door with a smile. After changing back from pyjama to normal clothes the FA offered to fold nicely but I said no need (was going to leave it onboard). Then went for a walk to stretch my legs, came back and saw a brand new pyjama placed on my seat instead of the used one which was taken away. How sweet is that!

Surpised the other offering is Henriot....on our flight it was Taittinger Comtes.

Also had the ramen, it really is good.

Loving the report boomy!

Can't agree more with the above comment, they are super attentive in every way imaginable.

Admittedly I don't have many of F sectors under my belt (3 only, 1 with QF and 2 with JL) but imo JL is light years ahead in pretty much every aspect.

That's it, this review finished but the next one is not far away. I'm about to take off again soon and the next TR will review EK F and SQ F/R on an ultra long haul trip.

I will update here on the final result of my negotiations with EY regarding compensation for delayed luggage.

Thanks for your TR boomy, I really enjoyed it. It is interesting to see multiple F products compared.

Another excellent TR from you boomy. You have certainly ramped up the excitement for my first taste of F on JL in a couple of weeks.

Great TR Boomy, love hearing how EY F has changed since I travelled to Europe with my Dad 2 years ago. Good to see Turkey Bacon is still on the breakfast menu!
