Thanks for the feedback. I've actually managed to book few more trips before the devaluation, more EY apartments and also QR A320 F, A350 J, A380 J & F.

I've been quite busy lately so didn't have time to follow up with EY about my compensation. So far I'm glad to say AMEX payed their share so most expenses are covered but still waiting for EY's revised offer.

Glad to report that after three months of fruitless negotiations with EY over my compensation amount they finally agreed to pay for ALL my expenses and also formally apologised for the poor treatment of my claim by AUH baggage services.

Special thanks to the EY MEL team who took control of my case and helped speeding up the process.

As boomy points out - there is nothing 'odd' about this at all. Australian airlines like to have terms and conditions which restrict (re)accommodation in the event of IRROPS to 'own services only'. In the US that's pretty much unheard of - they'll put you on another carrier if necessary. EU261 in Europe also helps - airlines would rather put you on another carrier than have hefty compensation to pay out. Award ticket makes no difference (nor should it) - except maybe if you go back to looking at Australia. Which should not be considered an example of best practice.

Sorry for hacking your report Boomy.

I have been moved from QF to VA twice due to cancelations/delays exNTL. On both occasions I was supposed to go to work straight off the plane in Brisbane and they (QF) were nice enough to send me via VA. No SCs earned with either airline tho.

Boomy your travel report has given me the "F itch" and I'm looking at doing something similar next year =D
