EY Gold Status match

Seems that the post to Perth must be a bit slower. Nothing waiting for me when I arrived home this evening.

Not really, its a full year plus what's left of this year, versus the 2+ years you get when first qualifying.

I'm not talking about first qualifying, I said requalification. When you retain Gold it only extends for exactly 12 months, whereas it seems people who got status matched have been given 18-19 months.

I know they're two completely different things, it's just an observation that EY's rules about status validity make little sense.

Either way you have already benefitted because you either got the status match or qualified, both offering longer periods of membership, something to do with the bait being bigger to attract the fish, once hooked, different story.

I've already benefitted from what?

If you did not get gold by status match you would have had gold for two years on qual, unless you re qualified in the first year, where there is no incentive to do so.

Right. Not sure if a bonus year in recognition of earning >50,000 tier miles in a year can be considered equivalent to bonus time on a status match, but anyway.

Btw, I also think their rules giving people status for a longer period on first qualification than on requalification are ridiculous. I started another thread on that topic. My observation here is that not only do people who retain Gold get less reward than those who first earn it, it seems they also get less reward than people who apply for a status match. If you don't think that's unusual or noteworthy, fair enough.

Both SO & myself received our kits in the mail today. Although the message in the ff profile said kits were despatched 13Aug I think that was when it was approved as the welcome letter was dated 26Aug.

In the kit was the membership card & two black leather looking luggage tags each containing a personalised card with your name & ff nbr that looks similar to your nembership card.

It was postmarked UAE so looks like it takes about a month to get to Australia. The card is valid until 03/15.

Hope everyone else doesn't have too long a wait.

*scurries off to check the letter box*

Edit: *returns from checking the letter box scuffing the ground with her feet and looking grumpy*

Also received. Now, to figure out how to best to use it.
My initial thoughts are through AA miles.

Another me too post. Card and luggage tags arrived in Brisbane today.

Very happy to have received mine. I've never flown EY and haven't flown VA for more than 3 years (and that was only because someone else booked it). Any lounges worth trying that I can access with this card?

It's not gonna be much use unless you start flying with VA and/or EY!!

IME, the best lounge of all that you can access with an EY Gold card is the EY lounge in DUB. It's a combined First and Business lounge and it's simply awesome!

Lounges leaving MEL or SYD on intl routes = Koru. Ok but nothing special. In most of the EU ports that I've flown out of with EY it's also been a bog standard lounge.

The EY lounges in AUH are v good, but unfortunately they are only open to J and F pax and EY Gold Elite. EY Gold just gets you access to the Al Rheem lounge, which is ok, but again nothing to write home about.

Very disappointing to hear about the AUH situation. Puts the value of EY Gold in perspective.
