EY Upgrade Auction

Just flew my auction upgrade. Had seat 11a in the 3-class configuration. Was awesome. Food and service top notch. Not overly impressed with the bed, but still managed 7 hours on an off. 14 hours felt like 2.
Then had to sit in cattle class. 7 and a half hours felt lke 14. 3-4-3 configuations are inhumane.

Well done. If 11a was a window seat, then you had the best seat possible. They say one of the reasons for auction upgrades and operational upgrades, is to try to convert you to paying for Business Class fares. It's certainly very tempting... Check your points win a few days, and see if you have enough to upgrade part of the journey on the way back. You can work out how many you expect to receive, and contact them through Facebook or Twitter after a few days if they haven't appeared yet.

The first time I was upgraded by Etihad (on an overbooked flight from Abu Dhabi to Sydney) I slept almost the whole 14 hours, so much so that at the end of it I felt I hadn't squeezed enough benefit out of the flight! Mind you, it was the worst jet lag I've ever had, and I find the same still - if I sleep well on the flight, my jet lag takes much longer to dissipate.

i hope my return upgrades come through although i think ey19 on thursday from lhr to auh may have been substituted from an 346 to a 330. Anyway, it'sthe auh to mel leg i really want. 11a was indeed a great seat on the window. Would love to score that again.

Booking is with Expedia. I don't think I can do OLCI.
Anyway, both my return flights were successful in the auction. This time I bid $840 (minimum bid) for the LHR-AUH leg and $1300 for the AUH-MEL leg.
That will make the trip much more bearable.

I'm flying MEL-EU-MEL in J with work next week, and I've got the invitation to bid for upgrades from J to F on the long legs (SYD-AUH and AUH-MEL). I'm tempted to go for it on the way back from AUH-MEL, just for the experience. I did fly in F once before with EY, but it was an op-up from BRU-AUH so it was a fairly short flight (6 hrs) and the F cabin didn't have the suite fit out, plus there was no F lounge. So it would be nice to have the "proper" F experience! The minimum bid is AUD$1,020. If I did it, does anyone know if the cost would be tax deductible since I'm travelling for work? As far as I can tell, it would be. If so I think I'd go for it.

Also any more recent experience with EY upgrade auction and crediting to Velocity? One of the earlier posts in this thread reported getting zero points. I'm going to start crediting EY travel to Velocity beginning with this trip, so I want to make sure I don't end up losing out on points (or have a load of hassle) if I go for the upgrade.

I say go for it. I paid more than your minimum bid offer for Y to J.
I have been credited with the AUH-LHR portion of my trip because it was in Y and I not bid for an upgrade. I have not been credited anything for the other three legs yet because they were bid upgrades. I'll be pissed if I get zero.

Hi Justinf ... Did you end up getting your points for your upgraded sectors? I am thinking of upgrading, but don't want to risk my J class points ear, which will be significant from MEL to NYC!

It has always been a bit inconsistent for me, sometimes they get posted automatically, other times I have had to put in a retro.
The AUH-Europe upgrade was always tempting for me but now it is over 1k minimum bid forget it!!!! Nobody must have been paying full fare for such an increase...

So I didn't bother with the upgrade in the end, but interestingly a week later I still haven't got the Velocity points/SCs from the first of the five flights I took (which ironically was on VA metal!). Got points for all other legs (on EY metal!) fairly quickly. Strange.

I ended up getting the points and SCs but only at the discount Y rate. SCs were 30 for AUH-LHR and 40 for MEL-AUH (and the same vice versa obviously).

That one was a weird one for me as well. $1200 for upgrading from AUH-LHR but $810 from LHR-AUH. Needless to say I gave the AUH-LHR one a miss and did the return leg.

Just flew EY461 MEL - AUH, upgraded through email offer from J to F, placed minimum bid of $965 5 days out, received email confirmation 24hrs before departure offer was accepted. F, J, and Y completely full. EY F service was outstanding. Tempted to try my luck on EY 460 this Saturday!

For me, offer came... min bid around $1200! for SYD - AUH and about the same for back again
Paris - AUH $860

I could purchase a 2nd return ticket to Europe for those 2 upgrades combined with leftovers

Min bids are definitely more than last year... but it's still like "a taste of business class for the poor"

If EY still flew AUH to SYD I might be more tempted since VA Business class looks more suited to pairs... There are no individual seats and in flatbed style the 'inside' person has to climb over 'outside' person to get out. I can imagine being given the very middle seat in the 2-3-2 layout...

I have paid maybe maybe 12 J flights in the last year and never been offered a paid upgrade . just booked for the weekend so lets see if they offer this time.
would not pay $1200 though, Id rather use 58k for AUH SYD.
I cant quite figure if I do buy the upgrade do i get all the F pts ( inc the present 4 times the pts instead of 3 X in J as that may be worth the extra)

You need to ring EY direct to ensure your email address is attached to the booking - most of the time it's not (at least in all the right places)
