Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

About two months after he was on the front cover of AA's "American Way":

Really, really nice guy. Also the star of my current favourite sitcom (US version of "The Office"). Good thing my status hadn't updated by then (I qualified on the SYD-LAX flight)...otherwise I would've headed straight to the FLounge and missed him. :)

The only other famous person I've ever seen at an airport is Mal Meninga, about 15 years ago!

(I did meet and get a photo with...wait for it...VANILLA ICE last year, but that wasn't at an airport.  )

Cheers,
- Febs.

Wasn't that in Newcastle?

Yep :)
A big group of us drove up for the concert to "re-live our childhood". At $28.50/ticket, why not? :)

The concert was so bad, but geez...what an awesome night.

Cheers,
- Febs.

I hope you frisked Rex to check for cutlery.
I believe his antics at the ADL QP a few years ago resulted in the plastic knives we now have to endure.

Nah, Rex was too 'fishy' to approach

A few years ago (prior to the refit of LAX T4 Admirals lounge), I saw Donny Osmond. About a year ago, I saw the Umbilical Brothers while boarding a LAX-SYD flight and much more recently on my DONE4 in January, I saw Pat Rafter (MEL FLounge) and Tony Cochrane (head of AVESCO (V8 Supercar variety, not HKG security)) in the LAX TBit OW FLounge. I have also seen numerous footy teams (AFL and NRL) and the Australian Cricket team a few times as well.

When I fly I am sure they warn all celebs not to fly that day.Hotels on the other hand are a different story.
Kept Shirley Bassey out of her suite at the Regent HKG as we did not check out until the last minute(she was seated next to us at breakfast and the GM telling her roomxx_x was not available).
Assigned room next door to Meryl Streep when she was pretending to be Lindy Chamberlain at the old Sheraton Alice springs.
Literally bumped into Henry Kissinger at Hilton NY.Later that evening went to see Billy Crystal in 700 Sundays.Henry turned round and said "we meet again""A couple of hundred people spent the next couple of hours wondering who I was.

I have met (not just seen) at airports or in lounges:

Dusty from ZZ Top in Koru Club AKL and later back stage at a ZZ Top Concert (as well as the rest of the band) at Mt Smart Stadium in ALK - Thanks Dusty!

Richard Wright - keyboardist from Pink Floyd - alas, just an autograph and no concert tickets... BA T4(?) LHR

Chelsea Clinton (and a couple of namless big blokes in dark suits) - Queenstown Airport NZL

Richard Johnson (****) - DJR- BNE QC - said gidday and had a quick chat about the series

Jason Ackermanis - sat next to BNE / MEL - chatted for 2 hours or so

Tama Umunga (?) - AKL - possibly QC - Photo taken had a chat...

Most recent and best yet!!! - Chantelle - the photographer from The Sea Shepherd - she had some amazing photos on her powerbook - the best 2 hours I have ever spent in the Melbourne QC!!!

I've said hello to (in passing) at QC's or Air NZ Lounges

Most of the Wallabies
Most of the All Blacks
Most of the Welsh RWC team (I also have a RWC ball signed by all)
Too many AFL players to mention
The Veronicas - on a Syd / Mel flight - they were in seats behind me

Plus many more...

Hotels - theres another page of name dropping!

Happy landings

Following (NOT stalking!) a woman from the plane in SYD about 12 years ago, would never have known who she was, until she piped up "Don, it's me Susie, Susie Elelman". A bit of research showed she was some sort of 'personality' who was famous for plonking her size 18 body into a size 8 dress at the Logie awards not long before...much more flesh than fabric (I believe she slimmed down big time after that). The "Don" was Don Burke, using a payphone (IIRC)

Essendon AFL team at PER QP (and on the plane). I think it was the day James Hird had his really nasty facial rearrangement. Then Nick Giannopoulos (The Wogboy) lobbed in the QP and started introducing himself to the team.

And at CBR GW lounge in mid 90s (my first airline lounge visit, as a guest, got my wallet out at the bar  )...<deeeep voice> "This is Peter Harvey, Canberra", sitting nearby having a drink.

Oh yeah, I forgot..... Told off christine aguilera's bodyguard in Melbourne. Had no idea who she was till the news that night.
Big bugger- was standing in the road, told him i did not give a damm who she was i just needed to get to my connecting flight. Very polightly apologised and let me pass.

Updated most recent... Met Brendan Nelson last week at SYD business checkin and chatted al the way through to where I went to the QC and he went to greet the masses.

Marina Pryor at Melbourne Airport and Bevin Addinsall (from young talent time) on a flight from Melbourne to Hamilton Island.

Richard Branson in the old Qantas First lounge at SYD. He was just wandering around by himself. Not quite sure what he was doing there...

Checking out the space for a new V-Australia lounge perhaps???

Everyone was being self-consciously cool, until he walked into the next room, when everyone started whispering like crazy.

Meh, I'd walk up, shake his hand and say g'day. :)
