Good luck to all, I really hope they stick and wish I was in the game! Love a bit of a gamble like this, makes life that bit more exciting, especially when there isn't much to lose, and a lot to gain!

As a side point, it would be interesting if you bought yourself hotels, car hire, etc. and travel insurance based on a 'confirmed' airfare you have bought and acted in good faith on, if travel insurance would then pay out if the airline canned the ticket.

that's the whole thing...it's not exactly bought 'in good faith' as you put it.

there are other remedies which may cover you for loss of any accommodation and airfares which you had purchased. travel insurance would not cover you for something which you knew, or ought to have reasonably foreseen. the possibility of the airli e cancelling this is certainly foreseen.

Who has got the first departure date on one of these fares?

I'm departing in 5th July from RGN - CPN return (TG & BA), the RGN-MEL (SQ & EK) 10 days later. I booked through Cheapoair.com, but I have all e-tickets, and airline confirmation booking references and my credit card has been charged with the funds cleared. I've selected seats, on all as well.

I've booked QFF seats to SIN, then I'll be booking Air Asia to KUL (stop for a few nights), then off to RGN. No Accom is booked yet.

I think you will be the guinea pig unfortunately. For the MI/SQ booking I believe the first booking is in June however the deal that you got from above is different to these MI/SQ deals advertised here

PS. Maybe a quick trip report when its all flown?

I'm on the MI/SQ 'deal' from RGN-LHR and my departure date is the last week in June. I am yet to book a MEL-RGN flight given that I am yet to be charged for the MI/SQ tickets.

It is a becoming a little concerning as customarily I would have booked a MEL-LHR fare by now, so if MI/SQ don't honour the booking and I have top go back to square one I will probably be paying more than I normally would be.

Charged back to your Australian CC versus ticketed are two different things, most travelers know the difference.

Yes. I have an e-ticket number (as do my parents) issued on 629 (MI) stock.

Hrmm, I trained in using the Amadeus GDS, I know a lot of airlines systems will not issue an e-ticket number until the fare has been checked over by an agent, so I reckon that the e-ticket number is only a good sign. It may have just slipped past the agent that you're paying too little for the flight, so good luck!

Do you have any QF or SQ points? If yes, I would book a MEL-SIN one way award. [Some strange reason why I can't get MEL-xSIN-RGN on a SQ SWP-SEA award]. Book a SIN-RGN SQ award ~10K after discount. Sit tight and hopefully you'll know by early June at the latest the outcome. Worse case, pick up a revenue fare ex-SIN to LHR return.

Ps. Whoever booked, please don't call MI/SQ to confirm if these fares are valid, the less investigation that are done, the more better our chances are.

With all the reporting in place I would be surprised if someone at MI/SQ does not already know what has happened. Whether they do anything about it though is a different story.

Charged to your Australian CC would take a period of time whilst ticketing should show instantly when it occurred, and most travelers would know that an overseas transaction will often take place in a period of time that is longer than a local one when it comes to settlement.

Not sure if this is the problem, but sometimes the call centre can see availability that doesn't appear online (especially with Silkair flights). Might be worth a phone call.

As has been mentioned earlier, I'm going to be a Guinea Pig for the booking I did with Cheapoair in late June, but I rung Qantas yesterday about something else, and got them to check my booking (I'm flying BA, with a QF flight number), and it's all good. All paid for, ticketed etc....Off to Europe mostly in First for a fantastic price! Gotta love AFF!

I have a friend who regularly used to book cheap fares out of COL via SIN to LHR and not use the first leg. This was soon woken up to and as a previous posted remarked., the first leg into SIN must be used.

I didn't know the difference either, but have learned as an "Old Gentleman" to always be nice.

Obviously, even though you may not have info to hand of the precise ticket number, one seeing the final charge in print on your card statement would naturally assume that all was well with the booking!

The comment was in relation to there being a ticket number but no charge to the Australian credit card after a week, with my comment alluding to the fact overseas travellers would know that settlement of overseas purchases will often take longer than those in Australia, so you should not be using the Australian experience as a benchmark. As others have posted, the actual charge can take a long time to come through, that fact a ticket number is in existence is a good sign while the lack of a charge onto the card means nothing at that stage.
