The comment was in relation to there being a ticket number but no charge to the Australian credit card after a week, with my comment alluding to the fact overseas travellers would know that settlement of overseas purchases will often take longer than those in Australia, so you should not be using the Australian experience as a benchmark. As others have posted, the actual charge can take a long time to come through, that fact a ticket number is in existence is a good sign while the lack of a charge onto the card means nothing at that stage.

I agree. For example, my regular hotel bookings with Starwood properties are often prepaid and I know that even though I get the confirmation number immediately, the time they can charge the credit card can be anytime between the time of booking all the way up to the date of check-in which could be weeks or months away.
 
Will be interesting to see how this plays out. From past experiences reported on FT there can be several options: a) cancellation - even right up to day of departure (as happened to some pax on the AA mistake fares offering F class on CX ex HKG); b) modification of booking so that travel is restricted to SQ flights (meaning that SQ will try and limit its losses if any other carriers appear on the same ticket, also given as an option on the AA mistake fares for travel on CX - pax were offered flights via NRT on AA metal, connecting to J class on CX services from there to HKG), or finally C) full honouring of tickets as booked.

Obviously options 3 then 2 are best. Option 1 came with an offer to refund any incidental costs such as connecting flights or non refundable hotel costs.
 
OT - But AA seem prone to mistake fares on other OW metal especially in F. That is now CX and QF now?
 
Charged on my Amex too, as SILKAIR - *IT SINGAPORE

I wonder if there is anything significant in the title; it makes me suspect that IT in head office is processing the charge. Does anyone who has booked a 'normal' silkair fare know what normally shows up on your account?

Well I'm back to a pending transaction (in the background). It can only be this, though, as it's the credit card I use for foreign transactions. Here's hoping this is one charge that actually sticks!
 
I reckon your all in luck. It appears that the transactions are getting manually checked and then processed.

I find it odd how sometimes with 'normal' fares it can take ages for the airline to charge the card as evidenced by some peoples experiences with Qantas. I would have thought it would be in the businesses interest to get the cash as soon as possible. Better in their pocket than yours!

That all depends if the airline wants to play a currency game, it would not be too hard to pool all the sales in a particular currency and wait for it to be a good time to process and convert to another currency if it was believed a gain could be had in a short period of time!

As has been mentioned earlier, I'm going to be a Guinea Pig for the booking I did with Cheapoair in late June, but I rung Qantas yesterday about something else, and got them to check my booking (I'm flying BA, with a QF flight number), and it's all good. All paid for, ticketed etc....Off to Europe mostly in First for a fantastic price! Gotta love AFF!

I didn't simply ring and say "Hey I gotta a stupidly cheap deal, is it all ok?? :) I rung about something else and simply inquired about my two different reference numbers. QF girl told me why I had both references and everything looks good. I've got a family of 4 traveling with me, and I gotta book hotels, connecting flights etc, so this is good piece of mind.

I concur with Tinkybelle's advice that it is not wise to call the airline regardless of whether it was for something minor. All that is required is for a CSA to be on the ball and you could have the airline's revenue management team scrutinising your itinerary and fare.

Well, know someone in US who brought the same RGN/LHR RTN on Silk + SIA in J Class (even in the SIA A380 suite) well Friday, USA time he been contacted by Silk advising they are return his purchase on the card, as it was an error. Silk will not honor the fare, full stop. as per the T&C of the ticket. unless want to take the same for US$10700..

So it's a wasted excercise, hope no one has brought a cheap SIN/RGN ticket on Myanmar Airlines or Silk which is non refundable, if you have enjoy the new Burma.

Cannot help it think We re worrying about bridges before we cross them, if a friend has been told no go I am surprised its just freind singular given modern call centre technology, does not take too long to touch base with 200 or so people.

I think there is a TandC sayig that they don't have to honour IT mistakes. However, that aside, I am wondering how the US DOT would handle this... or even if they can.

We know when AA sold the mistake fares on CX the DOT stepped in to say that compensation for any incidentals was required (that is, if you booked connecting flights and/or hotels). However - the DOT doesn't have juristiction of tickets purchased in Myanmar I wouldn't have thought.

They might (for US residents) have some sort of pull against SQ (given that SQ flies into the USA) - but again Silk Air does not, and Silk Air is a subsidiary only.

A very quick google search for Silk Air returns the following in respect of web bookings under 'use of online web booking facility:

11 LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SilkAir is not liable for any injury, loss, claim, damage, including those based in negligence, whether actual, incidental or consequential (including lost profits or other special damages) which arises out of or is in any way connected with any of the following items:

...

(g) any booking or reservation made through the SilkAir Online booking facility that has not registered or is delayed or is in error.
If SilkAir is found liable for any loss or damage which arises out of or is in any way connected with any accessing or use of the SilkAir Online booking facility then the liability of SilkAir will in no event exceed, in the aggregate, any subscription fee and/or service charge for accessing the SilkAir Online booking facility.


This does state 'to the maximum extent possible'... and I suspect, if you could find the appropriate jurisdiction, that MI might have a case to answer in respect of consequential losses. However - it seems that might be a court process and not something you could resolve at the airport counter when you are about to board...
