FAs permitting economy PAX to use PE after takeoff

I think what these stories sell is the "hit and miss" comment raised numerous times.
I took a PE flight today with SYD crew and i would easily say they were fantastic. Extremely courteous, lovely ladies (and 1 guy), i've had them before, remembered me and just overall made the flying experience great. (even though i was on one of those damn rouge aircraft with the terrible seats and no IFE). But to be honest with such nice crew it can easily be overlooked.
Flight was Full, chatted with the CS about PE protection, she was very clear, we need to protect the product.

Congrats to VA on an excellent flight today (better then the one last night!)

The VA crew today, had alot of challenges on board (at the end of the flight, they had the Federal Police remove a passenger!).. So it really goes to show, that i think the crew onboard really do make a significant difference and really are the face and driver behind having a very successful product.

I think someone mentioned that Flight Crew had not been told about upgrades. I showed the CS today that post on my iPAD and she definitely said they had received training on the PE problems, and things to do. Maybe the training just hasn't been spread through-out the organisation as yet?

Maybe we can get everyone to post/survery PE experiences to help identify on here like a flight report in PE whats been happening? Good Flights and Bad??
 
I was pleasantly surprised to be seated in a row 2 premium economy seat out of Sydney last night as part of being shifted to an earlier flight. Flexi fare but only red status and my fellow traveller had no status at all. Still received economy (flexi) service, but wasn't complaining.

I am not sure if this was in part due to disruptions out of Sydney yesterday. In addition to the heavy rain, the (incidentally very good) cabin supervisor mentioned that a couple of planes had been stuck by lightning.

On topic for the thread: I've been known to give myself an op-up, but that was only on one very special AFF-related occasion :D But if I'm flying J and someone manages to get themselves next to me on a Y ticket, I'll just give them a thumbs up.

If anyone is being obnoxious I'll let them know it, regardless of class.

As I have stated elsewhere, I also only choose Y+ / J if I HAVE TO, most of the time, Im in the back as well, However, if I need the quiet or the tranquility of a smaller cabin, and PAY GOOD MONEY for that and it is destroyed, I am annoyed, !!!


God help fare-paying fellow passengers with children who destroy your enjoyment of peace and quiet in Y+ / J.
 
Let's not lose sight of the actual topic in this thread which is J paying fare passengers not getting the advertised service due to Y paying passengers commandeering that part of the plane because it looks more comfy. Whether or not someone's personal expression is to our liking is off topic. I don't think anyone here disagrees that people upgrading themselves mid-flight is unacceptable and that it's the FAs job to tell such people so.

Also the comment re: I would just give them a piece of my mind, and how gutless I am for not abusing a woman on a plane

I couldn't find the post by someone suggesting you abuse the woman. Could you point it out please? Thanks.

As for hiding behind a keyboard, you smartarse, name the place and time and Id be happy to discuss your gutless behind the face of the keyboard comments on a personal, face to face situation.

Come on guys, it seems really silly to want to get into a fight over cough on a message board. And meeting during a social event - which is supposed to be fun - seems really out of order.

LOL, seriously guys, we are not school yard thugs lining up behind the sheds for a fight, the discussion was going nowhere, and things were being taken out of context, so I suggested, that I would not comment any further on this matter, and any further discussion would be best face to face (Over a few beers as suggested), so the whole thing is not blown out of the context it was intended to be used in.
My language, and general demeanour, are from a life brought up in NW NSW, and any city folk who have dealt with country people will know EVERYBODY, even the local priest lets the F's and C's go, and usually their is no malice intended. So yes Im taking a back pedal, Ive even apologised for being a smartarse ....
But honestly PPL Lighten up, she was a pain in the cough, Im not a snob, and we will all be getting the benifits of me being a loud mouth yobbo turd, because VA have put measures in place that will see this practice minimised.
I achieved what I aimed to achieve, and an official email was sent as well (Worded a bit better than my wording here)

Back on topic, I flew MEL-PER-MEL this weekend in PE and the flight over was very full with only one spare seat in PE.
The return leg was different.I was the only one in PE and nobody tried to sit in any PE seat. I did have all three TV screens on 3 different sports in my row (AFL, NRL and rugby) and one young teen was waiting for the toilet and sat in 1D (I was in 1F) and changed the channel while he was waiting. No big deal. I changed it back when he got up and used the bathroom.
Can't speak highly enough of the service on both journeys even though I slept most of the return leg.

Firstly my apologies as I've only read pages 1 & 8 of this thread.

On my MEL-BNE flight last Saturday morning, PE was completely empty. The lovely lounge angels had given my partner and I 3A and 3C, and kindly blocked out 3B. So we essentially had PE seating. (Benefits of being Gold on a Saturday morning are there aren't many other Golds around, and I assume that will get better with Platinum! I'm at 727 Status Credits so far and 4 months to go!)

20 minutes into the flight and while the crew were preparing the food service, a lady had walked up and plonked herself down in 1C. She was asked to move within about 10 seconds and said something about having no room (couldn't quite hear) and they said quite clearly "you may move to any empty row, except rows 1 or 2".

She then went to the bathroom and managed to come back out once the trolley was part way down the aisle. So she sat back into 1C. The FA must have noticed as only a few seconds later they were back up the aisle telling her to move again.

It seems they are becoming much more vigilant. I've also seen once before on a SYD-MEL flight where someone has actually asked to move forward (better than assuming the seat I guess) and they've refused. I guess they are now recognising that whilst in the past there may not have been a big difference between PE and Y (although the middle seat blocked makes all the difference for me) there certainly is with the new product that's on it's way.

As for PE often being filled with "upgrades", yes this does happen particularly with the busiest flights. I think once ODU's come in, the issue of having to put non-paying customers in there will go. Mind you, I've benefitted from this several times and don't really have an issue. Most of the PAX sat in PE are Golds on Flexi fares anyway.
 
I have only a single experience of this and that was flying Pacific Blue from Densepar to Melbourne. Aircraft was near empty, 1 passenger in PE (I was in Y). After take off the FA came over the PA and said very clearly feel free to move to any seat in the plane (there was enough free seating to lie down), except the first 3 rows.
 
Re: DJs new 737s, pretty impressive.

I am starting to think that the red velvet rope, or retractable barrier (like they use at check in) might actually work well. I personally don't think it would look tacky, quite the opposite, I think it would look 'exclusive' and modern.

Because there is not a face on shot of Virgin Australia's new 737BSI cabin yet, here is one of Virgin America with the barrier, which would have a 'quick release' magnet holding it together in the centre in the case of emergencies.

The other option is a curtain, which I think detracts from the whole feel of the cabin, and the flowing Sky Interior design to achieve the same results. And in a aircraft like a 737 you don't want it to feel any more compact.

There is already a curtain, but it's up the front. To close off the galley area. My SYD-OOL flight this evening was only 1.25 hours or so and as such the curtain didn't close at all. Might be different on longer flights.
