Feeling ripped off by Virgin advertising - we now serve food and beverage

Meals are an issue on either airline. Qantas certainly has the lead for actual meal times, as in they actually provide a meal during designated meal flights. But at other times there isn't much to separate the two airlines in terms of the presented food.

What's a QF snack these days? Crackers and dip? Muffin? Shortbread? Health bar?

Do they still offer apples on request?

I do like that you have a nice choice of cold soft drinks available, included in ticket price.

Comparison to VA:

Example afternoon snack Qantas mel to adl. Crackers with dip plus cookies. I find it more substantial than VA

Kraft processed cheese plus a sliver of tomato on a crouton of bread on the way out.
Egg and lettuce on the way back.

I learned my lesson on the way up and refused it on the way back.

Totally agree.

I still remember more than one occasion where I've been on a published MEL-BNE-CNS departing at 5pm and somehow, QF deemed both sectors to be "here's an apple" flights.

Soft drinks were avail although i had a coffee. I was offered bottled water to accompany my coffee as well.

just need to clarify...were FREE soft drinks available?? VA states that FREE soft drinks are ONLY available between 5-7pm weekdays...QF can provide FREE soft drink ANY time of the day

I believe Aussie_flyer was offering a QF comparison. That is of course, unless VA have started to use QF napkins to save on printing expenses! (see the photo ;))

Indeed i was referring to Qantas and free soft drink, juice, tea, coffee and water were available

How do the airlines resolve / reconcile cases where they give stuff away for free like this?

Surely someone is auditing the cash floats against the receipts and stock levels. And the immediate implication of any discrepancies would be the cabin crew.
Service recovery. Soiled stock. Theft from cart. Use by date. FA error.

All valid excuses?

Haven't seen an apple for a while. Pretty much crackers and dip or cheese, or upmarket biscuits. Pretty comparable to VA in the evening. Last few morning flight, I took the muffin to work for mornos. But the drinks are a winner on QF, even if I usually just take water.

I must admit I prefer having a water bottle, even if it's tiny, to being poured water in a plastic cup.

I'm glad I don't employ them. Why not just give you $2 back and say you got a discount.

My exact immediate thought... Although probably important to note that every time I've been given something for free it's been on the last flight of the night. Not that Kit Kats are perishable but still, perhaps their intention is to clear as much stock as possible without too much fuss.

7pm flight last night I had rice cracker / nut combo offered for 'dinner'. What a joke.

I had the same thing on a Darwin-Melbourne flight recently. Advertised as 'Meal included' but it was barely a snack.

Perth-Melbourne flights in the past have had fairly decent meals so I assumed that Darwin leg would be similar as it's a similar flight time.

Not sure I would agree.

Most snack offerings on VA are vastly inferior to what's offered on QF at the same time of day.

VA rationed cashews and Pretzels on Friday 7:05pm flight and cashews and pretzels on todays 5:10pm flight. At other times it has been the birdseed.

They hand out a handful of these on QF when you ask for a drink after the meal.

Snacks on a 1, maybe 2 hour flight is probably acceptable but this definitely isn't. You wouldn't want to see those in J being treated to a 3 course dinner while you try to salvage your one cashew.

my comment was pretty clearly about non meal times. I find the snack on the 20:25 flight to be pretty much the same as whatever VA serve up. great that you get cashews and pretzels with your drink, that is not my experience.

BNE -CNS return couple of weeks ago. Packet of Crackers and cheese. No free wine , but the flight was after 7pm on a Friday
Same cheese and crackers on the way back . My gripe was no free IFE . Not sure if not working or just not installed, but no reason was given. (737). The ad definitely states Free entertainment (maybe they mean the In flight magazine :))

No loss there my friend. A few months ago I updated Silverlight especially to have another look at VA ife as I'd previously been unimpressed. Out of the limited offering, I got the impression they must have been paid by someone to regurgitate movies that should have gone extinct with....well, Jurassic Park to help flog new release instalments of old has-beens like Terminator and Jurassic park! Even the TV shows were drivel.

Needless to say I switched it off and thought to myself, yep, still crud! Thank God for Pink Floyd and noise cancelling headphones!

Just to clarify, you have installed the VA IFE app?
