After making a booking last week for the BNE-MEL-NAN SC run, I attempted to make another booking today only to find the base fare has increased from A$520 + $130.69 = $650.69 to A$624 + $130.69 = $755.

Effective this morning and predicted a while ago with the demise of competition on the route, definitely worth spitting the booking now:

Effective for sales and travel on or after 13 December 2010 the D2F fares increased ex BNE/MEL/SYD and effective for sales and travel immediately, the C2F fares decreased ex BNE/MEL/SYD on the Australia to Fiji OW/RT Special Economy / Business Fares (Y2F / D2F / C2F)

Woah, was just about make a booking today with a friend! Mmmm will have to look at splitting it up now.

What do all those codes represent?

Even with the increase, the rate per SC for this trip can still be under $4/SC including credit card and currency conversion charges. So it's not all doom and gloom for this valuable route.

I booked on Friday, but am looking to change dates so I wonder if they’ll try screw me? All flights are in D, but so are the Christmas flights I booked earlier in the year and I was able to move those flights all over the place for free.

Booking it separately ends up costing around $1250-$1300

depends on the exchange rate from FJD to AUD

Yikes,

I have a book now pay later one which I was planning on paying today as the cc month has now ticked over and now it says

The price of your flights has increased by AUD$414.80 due to changes in surcharges and taxes.
New amount is displayed below.

:(

How unfortunate... will have to discuss the increase with the mrs I think

Not the end of the world and as others have mentioned still a very attractive SC/$ ratio.

Can you please tell me what class you are booking that gets around $4 per SC ?

BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN booked on the QF AU site; NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE booked on the QF FJ site. Select the lowest Business fare available (either Business or Business Saver). Add $30 for international bookings on credit cards ex-AU; add 3% for currency conversion fee (bank imposed) for booking in FJD from FJ site.

The whole routing above nets 360 SC so at $4 per SC that gives $1,440 as a target maximum to spend (including all necessary surcharges). Price depends on date and availability, of course, but I chose some random dates in March 2011 and I managed to find something that could easily under $1,440 and net a night at a good hotel with the difference. (This is all dummy booking, I'm not planning another Fiji trip yet!)

Business Class, booked into D, and at A$2.46/SC is nearly as good as it gets for this part of the world.

Is this based on the new prices or old prices?

And what routing did you pick? I haven't gone back to dummy booking, but I'm struggling to work out how you get a rate like that... (which is even better than the rate I got when I went on a Fiji trip the first time).

So you get 200 SCs for flying business class to NAN (return). The cheapest bus class fare I can see is $1259 on Air Pacific. That's about $6 per SC.

Am I missing something here? I don't think there are any business class seats for under $500.

Have just cancelled my "book now pay later" booking and made and issued two seperate PNR's at the original level. Could have saved myself a couple of hundreds but hey... things like this happen :p

BNE-MEL-NAN = A$680.69 & 260 SC's
NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE = A$595.55 & 260 SC's

BNE-MEL-NAN = A$680.69 & 260 SC's

How do you get 260 SC?

BNE-MEL = 60 SC
MEL-NAN = 100 SC (assuming QF take equal to or greater than the GCM distance)

NAN-SYD = 80 SC
SYD-MEL = 40 SC
MEL-BNE = 60 SC

Total = 160 + 180 = 340 SC

This gives a rate of $3.75/SC, which still isn't bad.

BNE-MEL = 60 SC
MEL-NAN = 100 SC + 100 SC Bonus

NAN-SYD = 80 SC + 80 SC Bonus
SYD-MEL = 40 SC
MEL-BNE = 60 SC

= 520 SC's @ $2.46

Aaah, double SCs promos helps.

I only got a promo that offers 50% more SCs, but still would greatly help the rate for sure.
