Final flights for the B767

I believe JohnK is getting at comfort.

A 767 with the same load as a fully loaded 737 is carrying the same number of pax (albeit at higher cost) but gives the illusion of space as those same 150 odd pax don't take up 100% of the aircrafts capacity. Simple concept really.

Many empty seats on a 767 creates a feeling of space, compared to a chockers 737 which emits a sense of 'sardine-ism'

Even a fully loaded 767 gives a better feeling of space.
And if you're traveling as a couple, the pairs of seats are a million times (no exaggeration!) better than a row of three.
And when you've got an infant it's another order of magnitude again.
Really going to miss the 767s.

The A330 should be able to pick up some of those positives for the B767.

Not everyone flies to PER.

I remember when I first started commuting SYD-BNE in 2008 I could easily choose 767 both ways and not inconvenience myself. The past couple of years it has gotten worse and worse with many aircraft substitutions. The past few months has been ridiculous.

Inadvertently took my (possibly) last B767 flight today. The 416 was subbed from an A330 to -OGT (according to The QantasSource).

Thought "uh-oh" as soon as I saw those microbins! Certainly not going to miss loading my carry-on sideways rather than wheels first.

A serious question: given CASA (reportedly) only allow crew to be certified to one-type, what's going to happen to the crew who man the last few flights? RR: are these being retrained/recertified on other types?

Regards,

BD

Most Pilots are being redeployed and re certified within the company, predominantly on the 737-800, in comparable roles.

Cabin Crew just continue as normal, with one less aircraft type to worry about (domestic crews rated on B737, A330 and B767.) This number has come down substantially this year with the retiring of both the 734s and the RR 767s.

Thanks slc767338, I was obviously under the mistaken understanding that cabin crew could only be certified on the one type.

While it has already been mentioned that cabin crew can work across a number of different aircraft types, I'd be interested to know what arguments there may be for any restriction.

It's not uncommon for crew to be cross trained, CX cabin crew for example can work all their fleet - long haul and regional, so that's 5 aircraft types plus variances within those (747, 772, 773, 330, 340)

I know they don't like to use it on Golden triangle as it's slow to turn around, but doesn't mean they wont when they get more of them ;)

They won't use them on Golden Triangle.

Had a chat with the CSM and FA's the other day. They are pushing towards a 40 minute turnaround. Not going to happen with A330's both in boarding and deplaning.

They already do and 4 to 5 flights a day on average scheduled mel-syd right through next year

I had A330 on SYD-MEL earlier this week. Much more comfortable than a 737 but I can see that the turnaround time would be problematic.

Will likely be justifiable for the peak flights as the loads were pretty heavy (even though that flight was usually operated by a 737).

A big issue with the A330 is the wing span. It's quite a bit bigger than the 767, and so the bays that it can use are restricted...so generally only a couple can be at the terminal at any one time.

In discussion with a Qantas airpport guy at a BBQ last week indicated the 40min turn is 737-800 only.A330s are staying at 50min to an hour. Apparently 734s used to do less than 35 & 40min turns.
He also mentioned once an A300 was turned around in in 25 odd minutes to beat curfew in SYD,although at 10:30pm it wouldnt have been full.

Just leave out the cleaning, and hope the "missing last passenger" isn't...

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this - but will there be a AFF meet-up in the QF Club/J Lounge in the afternoon of the 27th?

I am on QF686 ADL-MEL on 17 Dec. I am travelling with my mother, and through a quirk of fate we are in different cabins (unless an upgrade request comes through).

We will be in the ADL lounge from about midday for the 1340 departure, if anyone would care to join us.

You do realise that was upgraded due to the cricket - I hate to say it but they might downgrade it, considering they are no longer carrying the cricket teams

Having no interest in cricket, I had no idea.

Oh well, my mother and I need to travel at that time on that day so easy come, easy go.
