FINALLY! - Citi launching Citi Prestige with Visa Infinite

3.4% surcharge on local AUD transactions.

Not sure if the world has gone mad.

Paid for photobook through photobox.com.au in AUD. Got charged 3.4% foreign currency fee.

Explanation from Citibank is that this company is a foreign company. And these are "new" changes to Citibank.

Those who are governing the banking sector, instead of asking to scrap frequent flyer points, please have a look at this. If I buy an Apple phone, does that mean a foreign currency surcharge because the mother company is based overseas?

If something is not done sooner or later, you will be charged 3.4% on everything.

Wonder if you can dispute the transaction with Citibank since you were charged more than the agreed amount.

I was politely ask to speak to a manager and tell them if it isn't reversed, you will need to take it up with the banking ombudsman as you purchased from an Australia website in Australian dollars.

Will do that and see what they say. Thanks for the advice.

Could it be that Photobox processes payments outside Australia? It seems that a lot of banks have jumped on that bandwagon in the past year or so, ie; If an AU company charges you in AUD, but the payment is processed outside Australia, that'll be an extra 3.whatever%, thanks.

I took a punt and used my Citibank Signature card to pay for some SQ flights recently, half-expecting to be slapped with the same fee, but unlike you, I seem to have dodged that bullet. On my statement it appears as "Singaporeai (a bunch of numbers) Australia Au", so maybe SQ has a presence here for processing AU payments???

Did you at least get 5 points/$ for an overseas transaction? The way Citi seem to like to have it both ways I would guess no.

When I read your post mickto I immediately checked my statement - I've booked a bunch of AirBNBs recently, and AirBNB are headquartered in Ireland I think (for tax reasons, no doubt). Fortunately they come up as "AirBNBAU" or something similar, with no forex charges...

I think you should complain.

Did anyone else receive a fountain pen in the mail recently? I returned from a three overseas work trip to find it in the mail

Just received this by courier from Citi Prestige Dining. Anyone else get it? Is it a good bottle (need to know what type of re-gifting I can do :) )?

We went for dinner at Ecco in Brisbane and my daughter remembered they were in the book for Citi Dining. Got a bottle of McWilliam's Appleton Sav Blanc, which was quite decent. $45 on their menu, about $20 in the shops. Not bad for free.

Never a dull moment with Citibank - currently trying to book 2 x b2b stays on the 4 for 3 promo - Citi tell me not bookable for reqd room type for the first booking on my card but say ok to Cruiserette on her card for 2nd booking - am waiting for Concierge to call back to explain this one. Upshot will be 8 nts at 6 nt cost if we get over line - gotta love that.

Report back please! It sounds like you really have to push with Citibank sometimes.

Can report back that Citi now claim that they made a mistake in their email - indeed the Room type is unavailable for my selected days rather than not bookable - this might be true as both hotel web site and hotels.com web site both only displaying standard type room availability my dates but superior room types available Cruiserette's dates.

But we are making progress and will shortly have a good tale to share on the 'Stay 4 / Pay 3' promo.
