First Class on American Eagle?

Not me, I've always tried to avoid them where possible. Interested to hear what you think.

Yeah, flown in them here and there.

Generally shortish flights - no hot food if indeed it is a meal service.

Are you guys taking most of the front cabin?

I took an Eagle CRJ in F for the short hop from LA to San Diego a few years back. Small jet but not that different to the VA domestic ERJs or QF domestic 717s. Seats were standard AA, same with the magazine and SkyMall brochure (which cracks me up). As a short sector there was only coffee service - I declined as I enjoy good coffee, I'll take plunger on QF J but draw the line at no milk (creamer !).

Enjoy.

Any larger looking carry on is also liable to be gate checked.

Let us know what you experience. Are you travelling well in the snowy parts of N.America?

.... not so much "Gate Checked" but all carryon larger than a medium purse/small laptop bag will be subject to "Valet" - this includes 115cm rollaboards - where they give you a tag, you write your details, attach the tag to the bag and deposit it at the end of the airbridge as you board.

You will get it back on arrival at the end of the air-bridge. (Can be an interesting experience waiting for it there when the temperature is freezing.)

That's what AA call "gate checked"

In relation to this topic it is not.

Even the tags have "Valet" on them. First Class get a different colour (Yellow IIRC) from normal (Red?).

"Gate Checked" is when the luggage you are toting gets tagged at the gate and goes into the hold as 'checked luggage' and you collect said luggage at the baggage carousel (hopefully) on arrival.

Valet: Collect in airbridge ... Gate-Checked: Collect at carousel.

Okay, they are two different things. But I'm pretty sure MQ (who we're really talking about) use the term "gate check" for both. Or at least they did back when I used to fly them constantly.

I have come across the both terms as well - but in relation to this, it's important to differentiate ("gate checked" in the context I was referring to is anathema to MR's :p)

I'm with you Tom.They certainly told me the bag was to be gate checked on taking it.
So for AA staff the terms are interchangeable.

Have flown one sector. It was fine. Unremarkably good or bad, as I only recall the novelty of it.

Do they still enforce this weird rule that nobody is allowed to exit the aircraft until all VALET:mrgreen: checked bags have been removed from the aircraft and put on the metal trolley outside? I experienced this last year in LAX, SAN and YYZ. It's pretty annoying when you have all your stuff with you and just want to get out of that tiny sardine can..

Don't mind the old CRJs. 1-2 configuration in first is sweet if travelling alone in 1a.

Thanks for all the input folks :)
Well after all that I didn't get to experience American Eagle after all!
Whilst surfing the net on gogo wi-fi I realised that our connecting flight (which we had BP's and checked luggage to) was cancelled. Upon arrival at JFK AA were a bit useless until I used EF and showed them vacant F seats on US out of LGA. They organised and paid for a car for us and we got to experience US F class instead :)
Sadly our luggage is still somewhere in NY but onwards and upwards.
Tomorrow we are visiting The Capitol

We received our luggage (intact) 24 hours later. Sent in a taxi to the hotel by AA as the courier service was overwhelmed by baggage deliveries

maybe it's dependent on the airport? I have done some 50 odd flights into a smaller regional US airport (UA, US, AA, DL), never had to wait for valet bags. There is only an announcement to wait on the jet-bridge if you are expecting a bag. From what i can recall arrival at ORD/IAD/LGA has been the same.
