First Qantas A220 revealed

That's true. But i still feel as though this is a red roo even if it's tiny in comparison.

Technically the roo is white these days.

This green background tail will possibly get mistaken for CX from a distance.

I wonder where they will deploy this first.
They have said in press releases previously that Melbourne to Canberra would be the first route.

Also from the QF Newsroom article:
  • “The A220s will mostly connect smaller capital cities like Canberra and Hobart, with our major hubs in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.”
  • “With double the range of the 717, the A220 is expected to open up new domestic and short-haul international routes as more aircraft enter the fleet.”

Considering the extra range of the A220 and international reach, this could have been Qantas' chance to really shake things up and have a "proper" international class business suite (ie. fully flat bed) amongst their narrowbodies.

I know an A220 is no 737, but had they done something like SQ's 737 MAX 8 business class suite, it would be very impressive and I'd be very keen to take it had I got the chance.

I guess Qantas could someday, retrofit fully flat business seats in their 737 lineup.

Wishful thinking though!

Well I think it's gorgeous. The vivid greens and blues are stunning - specially up close on the actual aicraft (you can't really tell from the concept art imo). I look forward to seeing it in the flesh.

I am dismayed at negative comments from haters out there as @Lynda2475 pointed out. Not just on LI, but on facebook and so on. It's fine if one doesn't like the livery that's very personal taste (I don't really like the mostly black and white 737 for instance) but linking it to the Voice, to virtue signalling, to "exploiting" indigenous people (an indigenous studio designed it??) and then the usual comments somehow linking it to Joyce and by extension the usual comments about him. It's so tiring and pathetic. QF have been doing this since the 90's (as anyone overfamiliar with the current safety video well knows even if they didn't see them at the time) and it's been a long tradition. Just sad that those people out there want to use these things as excuses to bring out their old and petty hates (I saw one person claim this is why airfares are so high and they shouldn't pain planes full stop??) and make ridiculously stupid to racist comments. Really poor.

It's really got nothing to do with race, it should be judged as any artwork should be judged (subjectively).

I think it looks good. I also like the 787 one.

However I really didn't like the one on VXB, the colours were just garish, and was known in the industry as the Vomit Comet.

I also really like its replacement on ZND, also 737-800. In fact I probably like that more than the 787 one.

I don't think you are required to like an artwork because it's aboriginal, nor should you dislike it because it is (as is the case apparently in these fb comments).

Technically it’s a Bombardier C Series jet.

The series has only recently been expanded.
Expect the same on the A350s.

I'm still hoping QF do some heritage liveries one day. - TAA, both Australians.

They've done plenty of heritage liveries but only the QF branded ones. I don't think they would do the other brands.

TBH, it’s 2023 not 1993 . What else do we expect will happen?

The algorithms are primed to bring out the haters and their negative comments. People are never going to engage with something that says “nice artwork on new aircraft”, but are absolutely charged up to engage with a post from someone that says “Qantas virtue signally with new aircraft design”. Alphabet, Meta and X all thrive on the back of this. Bad luck if you don’t like it or are collateral damage.

Sorry for a cynical take on this, but on a more positive note though I really like it and how the green continues on to the tail. One of the better pieces of art to make its way onto a livery IMHO.

I'm curious to see the interior, especially J seating and whether it'll have IFE.

I assume the J seating will just be the all too common Collins Aerospace MiQ, but I would like to see the Safran Z600.

I hope Qantas keep IFE on these new narrowbodies, although many legacy carriers are removing it these days (although OTOH Delta & Air Canada both have A220 IFE).

Love the livery though. Wouldn't even mind seeing a few jets have non-red versions of the regular livery.

I love the livery although I do fear that being green, it might fade over time in the way that VXB did - by the time it was repainted, it truly looked like a 'Vomit Comet'.
