Okay, I am a cricket tragic and have been going to the first 3 days of the First Test at the Gabba each year since the late 80's. This year, of course (unless you've been living under a rock) is an Ashes Test Series. I am a member of the Qld Cricketers Club, so will be in either Section 38 or 39 (Gabba map here). Anyone else coming, let me know where you are seated.

I was thinking of posting an hourly update for the Test, for those interested and running a bit of a commentary on interesting events during the first 3 days.

For now, bedtime awaits.

Enjoy Lindsay, appreciate the effort, however I subscribe to a toggle that sits in the corner of my screen at work.

So enjoy the spectacle. It is truly an interesting series given the doubts on the Aussie side.

I am very much predicting an aussie win. I hope the weather is kind

Sprucegoose, I appreciate that some use functions like cricinfo and the like, thought I would also show some pictures. I was also talking to one member who said they were trying to get tickets, so it's also an opportunity to meet and talk about something different (rather than flying).

Yup big day 1 today! I've scored a "work from home" day today so can't wait for the first ball to be bowled!

Lindsay, would be awesome to have updates here, pictures etc. If you are up for it there will be at least one person following. ;)

Good on you - living the Australian dream! Must be good to see the game live when the series hasn't already been decided. I've been going to the Sydney Test for the last 15 years and the series is usually history by that time.

My father was a founding member of the QCC but moved to Sydney not long after. However he retained his membership and moved back to BNE some 25 years later. Still in all that time I never went to a single match at the Gabba but then I never lived in BNE. Did go to the 25th anniversary dinner - would have been 1984?

I also follow the scores on Cricinfo (and ABC commentary when I can) but it's good to get another angle so I'd appreciate the "sideline eye".

Am actually in BNE airport now heading home. Just saw Warney heading out of the airport as I was going in. So at least they can start.

I will be following the scores on the go ashes app on the iPad...

And am wearing my England cufflinks this morning...

You little bloody beauty!

Andrew Strauss third ball duck! 1-0. Oh how that shut up the Barmy Army ;-)

Have taken photo's but not sure I'll be able to post now, as battery is down to half already after being full this morning.

My cousin - mad Englishman had me purchase Ashes tickets for Melbourne first 4 days and Sydney first 4 days for him and his G/Friend. I couldn't imagine 8 days possibly 10 of cricket - I would want to slash my wrists after 8 hours!

Have fun LW!!

My dad is there with an Australian mate. I’ll try find out the section Lindsay.

While the duck certainly shut the Barmy Army up, I hope the fun police aren’t confiscating trumpets again and kicking anyone out that wants to have a bit more fun that just sit silently for the whole day! I remember the '03 Ashes and the police were terrible.

Mr k_sheep is in section 61. Dad-in-law is the usher working section 65.

Normally I'd be working either the QCC gate or gabba room 1, but am in Vietnam :) Is sad, I haven't missed a first test for years!

Thanks for the comments thus far. Really crewing through the battery so I'll have to bring the charger for the next few days.

Barmy Army just come alive again, maybe the drinks are kicking in. No horns etc, a couple of whistles.

1 for 35 at 11am

Forgot to advise that another wicket has fallen. Trott bowled by Shane Watson for 29

Time for first sitting at lunch at Table 11 in the Don Bradman Room. Cheers

I'm not a cricket tragic, but if you happen to be in MEL for a boxing day test, I'll be happy to get you into the MCC Members to enjoy it!

Well its lunch time and its raining at my place (north of Brisbane). Radar is looking clear over the city centre though. But the cloud cover will keep it humid.

I like following the cricket especially an Ashes series but could not sit there watching it continuously.

I am quietly hoping Australia lose the series and with it the arrogance that appears to be around even after all those losses.
