I have used said seat belt on AirNZ Business premium seats to co-dine. My butt only just fits.

Which arilines assign an exit row during the booking process and how much luck would be required to get an exit row.?

Flying QF I always ring and ask the Platinum desk to request via seating for an exit row on 747 and have never had a problem.

By all rights that is certainly possible, but one would have to believe that you'd need to pay the requisite premium for it.

Business class exit row by any chance?

Need to pay for economy exit rows on QF. It was another unlisted benefit for Platinums which was "enhanced" last year.

Up for another trip in April 2011 CX Cairns to Hong Kong, me in J wife in Y (she refuses to let me pay the $7K for J) so with one economy its around $8.5K, as I dislike the coffin J CX seats and she hates the Y seats (now being replaced at sometime in future after so many complained) its a no go on CX.

Now we are going BA out of Sydney (ret) and both in J for $8K then BKK to HGK return, with domestic fares all up around $9.2K

Wife loves shopping in MBK centre Bangkok and top notch hotels there are cheap, so just 3days in HK on business, rest of week in BK.

Was at TA yesterday looking at flights for Europe next year. CX flights were about $400 each cheaper than QF. As we are paying for flights it would be good to get QFF points.

Flights are through HK then on to Europe. We will be flying in economy, would be happy to pay for exit row seats but is this possible on CX? We are both tall, all this talk about CX seats is of some worry to us. Long haul in economy is bad enough but an uncomfortable seat would make it that much worse.

Ric, that is good news. Do you have any experience with CX economy seats and service?

ellen10,
I think you will be pleasantly surprised with CX service especially compared to QF's (opening a can of worms here!!).
Re seats and I mean that you are referring to the "shell/clam" type which slides forward rather than actually recline. I do find that the padding can certainly do with "more padding"!! As it is, it's rather thin and the bum does gets a bit numb on long hauls. The pro is that there's no one reclining into your space in front.
