PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I'm on QF2 Friday 23rd March from DXB to SYD. Currently in Y and have requested to upgrade on points to Premium Economy. Can someone tell me what that looks like please? Also, I'd love to know how full economy class is on that flight - if there is a chance I could have a spare seat next to me downstairs, I might just keep the points.

Thanks in advance.

Generally, D/I class availability is regarded as a good guide to upgrades being granted. U class enables instant upgrades domestically, but rarely shows up so close to an international flight. As WP you are in with a fighting chance, but with plenty of availability in Y there is not so much pressure to grant the upgrade - it all depends on the yield management algorithms I would think.
Thanks OATEK. At least with availability in Y, I might keep the shadow.

I’m booked on QF23 from SYD to BKK on Friday (23/3). I’ve requested a Y to J upgrade. I’ve signed up for a free trial of Expert Flyer and the loading is:
J5 C5 D4 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 E9

So there are 5 business class seats available, but none in U class (reward/upgrade). Do QF allocate more U seats closer to departure? What are my chances of an upgrade? I’m WP and did opt for upgrade at gate.

Thanks!

QF does not release U seats so close to departure (2 days) - in my opinion and observation, but i don't observe every flight.

Is your Y ticket in the following fare classes - E,N,O,Q? .
If so then your ticket is not eligible for an Classic upgrade reward request.

A shadow is not a published benefit. I would not rely on there being a shadow. Its very hard to know whether the empty seat next to you was assigned to you because of your status or just an empty seat. Its just as likely that other pax with adjacent empty seats do not have WP status. In any case its nice to get an adjacent empty seat.

G0 = indicates some Group is travelling.

My Y ticket is a classic reward. There were no J classic rewards available when I booked last November. It must be eligible for classic upgrade as I’m able to request it.
Luckily I was able to book J classic reward flight on the return leg.

Actually I'm not sure "red e-deals" are sold on long haul these days.

Check the table I posted.
