PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Looks fairly full this far out. The loadings for the Sin to LHR leg are the same

QF 1SYD 3:55p → SIN 10:15p
F6 A4 J9 C9 D8 I0 W9 R9 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L0 G0

But more availability SYD to SIN so maybe a better chance for the first leg rather than the overall

QF1 SYD-SIN there are 12 vacant plus 4 blocked seats in J, 9 vacant plus 3 blocked in W
QF1 SIN-LHR there are 12 vacant plus 3 blocked, 1 vacant plus 5 blocked in W

But searching
QF1 SYD-LHR 7 vacant plus 3 blocked in J, 1 vacant plus 3 blocked in W

What fare class ticket did you get?

Generally upgrade requests are given for 1 sector

21 June is maybe 6 weeks away so loading may indicate a trend. No discounted J available 6 weeks out is not conducive. You would get a better idea mid June.

I presume you are booked SYD-LHR. (If you request upgrade 'to the gate', you will only be eligible for an upgrade on the last leg.

Seat maps aren’t that reliable unfortunately as not everyone selects a seat at time of booking (bizarre I know).

The other factor at play is that seat selection gets blocked once a certain percentage of seats have been allocated - meaning that some late bookings will not be able to select seats. The airlines do this to retain some flexibility to handle seat allocations for specific needs (e.g. bassinets etc.)

Not a newbie here. Could someone kindly check loading in J for QF 73 on 13th May please? Thankyou.

Hi
Anyone care to do a check for upgrade availability from economy to Business from Doha to Sydney with Qatar?

I’m looking at flying from DUB to SYD via Doha on either August 8/9 or 10 and would like to upgrade my partner and I for the second leg of our trip. Flight departs Doha at 20:35 local time. May convert my AEMX points to Q Miles if there is. TIA

Thank you so much for this. I’m a newbie here so I’m unsure what the Letters/Numbers mean?

Welcome

The first post of this thread will explain the fare buckets better than I can. In short you are looking for J C D and I availability for your desired upgrade to business and in particular you are looking for ideally 9’s in D and I as these are the cheapest fares for sale in business. 9’s in I class indicates that they haven’t sold many seats making an upgrade more likely.

The numbers for your flight options look good but the flights are a long way off. At this time you could book any of your flight options and you would have the same chance of an upgrade. This will change as the dates get closer

could someone kindly help with the loading of QF130 PVG to SYD on 4 June please. I am a WP hoping to get to J from Y. TIA.
